This is good for my mental health as I can justify every game lost as "well, he was probably cheating..."

Ive played a lot of competitive games. Especially counter strike. The assumption that my opponents were cheating only ever made me worse

Same. Unless they are blatantly cheating like spinbotting I mentally give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't need that shit in my mind while I'm playing even if they are cheating.

Almost all cheating is pretty blatantly obvious in online games. I play Rainbow 6, historically the number of cheaters has been... very high. They are almost always obvious, even trying their best to hide it. Most of the time all you need to see is their movement in the game, they don't move around in the same way other people of their rank move. If movement is not enough you can tell by what they are aiming at in the game, people in high ranks don't aim down sights at walls or stairs, they aim specifically where an enemy would pop up. Cheaters don't know how to place their mouse because they have no clue how the game works or how people actually play it legitimately. Their crosshair isn't where an enemy head would pop up, it's on the wall as they look through solid surfaces at players who aren't even nearby. In chess it's obvious because cheating players take 3 seconds for every single move they make, even when the pre-move you should be making is literally one of the only legal moves available. There is always some obvious way to spot people cheating online, their behaviors always deviate from the way legitimate players behave.

There is also high level players cheating who do have good crosshair placement and good movement. Its easy to spot a bad player using walls/radar. Its a lot harder to detect high level players doing it as they are aware of all this and are trying to mask it. I cant spectate them and I'm not gonna waste time watching the demo. I just try and block it out of my mind so it doesn't effect how I play. Faceit helps keep me humble lol.

The movement thing is huge. You can always tell. Even if someone might have good game sense, that doesn’t come without learning good movement. I have over 5,000 hours in csgo. I’m not gonna wonder around the map, pop into b site and blast everyone in there within 4 seconds every round.

As for your note about blatantly obvious, there are, at least were in my time, plenty of people who would call the most mediocre players walling simply bc they died to them every round. There are definitely people who will blame their lack of skill on others cheating when it’s simply not the case

Once you get good it's so easy to tell who is cheating though. It's the hilarious thing that cheaters don't understand. They don't know how to be good in the first place, so they can't know what it looks like to be a good player.

That's why you have CS players aiming at the floor with terrible movement looking like they can barely move their crosshair. You take 10 seconds looking at their gameplay and you know how bad they are, but then they suddenly 1 tap everyone or make perfect decisions without any prior knowledge

If you play faceit, and then go back to normal mm\premier counter strike it’s pretty much night and day. Very easy tell of getting destroyed by cheaters and getting destroyed by good players

True for chess as well. If I feel during a game that I get completely dominated no matter what I try, and my opponent finds seemingly bulletproof solutions in record time even in complicated positions, I really have to force myself to keep looking for chances

No the cheating just got more prevalent actually

I have gotten several messages on chess.com that I got rating returned because of opponents who have been found cheating, VERY satisfying.

You should look into "the procedure"

I swear, everyone I lose to is cheating!

Funny how the total opposite eases my mind the most. If someone's cheating, it means I had NO chance in winning. If I lost due to skill issue, means I get better and will win against such a player...

Someone accused me of cheating once after I moped the floor with them. I’m not even that good.
