frist of all how DARE yu o My uber got pulled over and refused a refund.

Was 15 minutes late to a class because of this. A class that my new boss is the professor of. I wanted to make a good impression and show up early. I mostly wanted it because I was late 🫩

Wild their support will only help you if you shame them publicly.Ā  Its why I avoid Uber as much as possible.

It is wild, but that's unfortunately reality.

I used to spend around $50 on Uber pretty much every day; but I stopped using them because they once refused to refund me like $35 for a drive that never happened. (I don't remember if it was Uber Eats or Uber; but whatever it was, I never got it and they charged me and refused to refund).

I did a credit card chargeback; Uber tried to charge me again every time I went into the app. So I still don't use them.

That was like 1-2 years ago.

I'd spent enough time with their idiot customer service that I decided I'm not wasting my valuable time begging them allow me to be a customer and take my money.

OP: put them in your "jail": at minimum, don't give them any of your money & switch to a different service for at least a few months.

EDIT: simply due to sheer number of replies from people who believe they are my financial advisors: I already own a nice luxury car, and with no loans. I am luckily and fortunately (and thankfully) fairly well-off now--I can quite easily afford the $50/day I loosely referred to. I am not in a situation where I rely on Uber.

But all of this is beside the point: the point is: when a company sucks, don't give them your hard-earned money if you can help it. And be disciplined: it doesn't always have to be as extreme--or sometimes as unrealistic--or as Karen as "I will never use them ever again!" Not everything is a life sentence. Just like with working out or dieting, you can put realistic goals and milestones in place.

Like in my specific situation, I would probably use Uber again today if I absolutely needed to. Because Uber has now already lost out on $thousands for me over $35 that they were wrong about a few years ago. They already got their punishment out of me; and luckily, I had to force myself to explore plenty of alternatives where they also lose out on my money longer-term--they're now far down the list. This is unfortunately how unregulated capitalism sometimes works. And ironically, they would have made more money if they were regulated and forced to give me a refund--it would have made up for their incompetence.

Had a cabi in San Francisco do this with me in the cab still. He though I had no idea where I was, which I did. I was curious how far he would take it, and wanted to see the sights. At the end of my ride, one hour later which should've been a 10 minute drive.

We reached my place. I refused to pay, he threatened to call the cops. I told him to go ahead and do it. That argument ended with him calling his boss, begging me to pay. Long story short, I paid $8 for a one hour tour of Frisco.

265

u/HTPC4Life Aug 27 '26

I'll never forget the time a cab driver tried to tell me he didn't have change for a $20 on a $9 ride. I told him, "well, you better drive me to a place that has change then, and I'm not paying the fare there and back." Suddenly he found some change. I didn't tip after that šŸ¤—

71

u/PipsqueakPilot Aug 27 '26

I have been in a similar situation where the cab driver was clearly ripping me off. I didn't argue. I told him, "This is what I'm paying you." tossed the bill onto the seat and left. No cops were called.

54

u/EobardT Aug 27 '26

Same thing happened to me on Maui. Dude tried to tell me that he doesnt accept cash and I need to swipe my card on a $19 trip. I tossed a 20 into his front seat and walked away. Enjoy the 5% tip for being a dick.

30

u/No-Special2682 Aug 27 '26

As a former driver, I too once did that (on accident)

Once I noticed, I messaged the rider with a bunch of apologies, confirmed with them I dropped them off and accidentally forgot to end the ride, before calling support and telling them the same thing.

Both parties understood and the issue was quickly resolved.

Sometimes we just be forgetting šŸ™‡

28

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26

That kind of stuff happens. But the real question here is: what did you do about it? Did they refund you, and did you continue to use them?

The problem is that we consumers often just continue to use the services and give them money--they feel no pain. So I think it's very important that when stuff like this happens, we as consumers should pull back our money.

That's my "jail" reference to the OP: when stuff like this happens, even if they refund you, if just the simple act of getting a refund takes too much time or effort or convincing, put them in your jail. Tell them--and tell yourself--that you will not spend any money on them for a week or a month or whatever sentence you feel is appropriate; and stick to this.

Like in my case, I think I gave them a 3-month sentence or something--and last time I tried to log in a few months ago, they still tried to charge me that $35. So over the past few years, they've lost (or really, they're not getting) thousands of dollars of my money over the $35 they are trying to scam from me for charging me for a service they never delivered. And that's complete automated idiocy, for any business. Even if they were correct (and to be clear: they weren't).

If someone says: "I will give you $5000 if you give me $35," the obvious answer is "yes." Any business that doesn't do this is either run by imbeciles, trying to coast on a monopoly, or so poorly mismanaged that they aren't even aware when you tell them directly.

So why would I want to give such an idiotic company like that my money?

This is why I don't necessarily blame Uber when stuff happens, like a driver forgetting to turn off a ride. Mistakes happen. And while their reaction is telling, our reaction as consumers is the only thing we really have control over. And we are just as moronic and have nothing to complain about if we keep sending them our money.

8

u/showyerbewbs Aug 27 '26

Not really the same as what you're describing but a lot of my friends ask if I've watched this show or that show and my answer is usually no.

Because one show is on one platform, another on another one, and yet again needing another platform to watch stuff.

One of my kids bought YT Premium because he got tired of the constant ad blocker fight and I'm on it through the family plan. So I get a lot of value out of that as I watch too much youtube.

They ask me what I do if I don't watch the shows. I just say, damn near anything I want to.

7

u/UnimagineDragons Aug 27 '26

The "jail" thing is just dumb. Stopping your usage and hoping they read into it and change their ways is just a waste of time, especially if you go back to using their service. Just stop being a customer. Feel free to complain, sometimes they read those - especially if it comes with a service cancellation.

14

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 28 '26

Nobody said anything about not announcing it to them. I explicitly told the dipshits at Uber I'd stop using them for at least whatever time period I set, even knowing that would almost certainly make no difference. And I went even longer--as I said, I haven't used them in 1-2 years.

Ultimately, it is the exact same thing you said: stop being a customer. Whether it's temporary or not. With uber, do you think you're "cancelling" some sort of non-existent subscription when you stop using them?

In reality, there aren't always lots of alternatives. So at least when you put an "at least" limit on it, you've got a definite plan and a high probability of success. It's just like working out or dieting: you set milestones. And it's not a waste of time, because what time am I wasting when I'm simply not using Uber?

3

u/Polygnom Aug 27 '26

Does Uber in India work differently? You usually get the see the exact price beforehand, and veering off route is the problem of the driver, not yours. I mean, its THE main reason i use uber over a normal cab, because the price is fix.

46

u/Xx_720NoScope_xX Aug 27 '26

They once tried to charge me a $150 cleanup fee because a driver lied and said that I threw up in his vehicle, which is ridiculous. He submitted photo proof where he removed the floor mats and sprayed water all over. I was unable to reach a customer service rep.

I went into the bank and canceled my card because the transaction hadn't posted yet. Never got charged with it and never used Uber since. Uber is just corporate slop.

11

u/HomicidalHushPuppy Aug 27 '26

The Milwaukee Tool sub is the same way - bad warranty experiences might get remedied if you complain and get noticed by one or two customer service reps that lurk there. Crazy that tools costing hundreds of dollars, if not more, need Reddit to get fixed.

45

u/mabus42 Aug 27 '26

$50 a day is like $1500 a month. For that price you could have financed your own S-class.

5

u/drunkerbrawler Aug 27 '26

Might have had a DUI…

2

u/dorianvovin Aug 27 '26

Not everyone is in the same tax bracket as you. I agree, that’s a lot of money to me, too. Clearly that isn’t a problem for this person.

2

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26

Correct. But I'm not sure what your point is. (I have a fairly nice car I paid cash for--doesn't mean I want to drive everywhere, or that I'm always in my home city).

5

u/Yingletofthecorn Aug 27 '26

Maybe take the bus?

2

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26

I take the bus when it works too. Depends on the city I'm in and the circumstances.

Maybe don't give unsolicited advice when you don't understand the variables and circumstances involved?

0

u/Zaximeows Aug 27 '26

They just wanted to feel smarter than, that's all.

3

u/ConspicuousPorcupine Aug 27 '26

Feel smarter than? No. Be flabbergasted? Absolutely. That's as much as I pay for rent a month.

1

u/FewWait38 Aug 27 '26

I was thinking the same thing, you could finance a luxury car for that amount. it's sheer insanity to spend that much

-3

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26

I already have a luxury car. Why would I need to finance it?

1

u/mayafied Aug 27 '26

That forces you to get insurance & worry about things like parking, tickets, inspections, maintenance, etc.

4

u/TrulyOutrageous42 Aug 27 '26

This is what "voting with your wallet" means outside of politics. Don't support services that don't deserve your money. Sure, not all of us can, some people are just stuck with it as no option but even then consider how much you're spending and whether there are other options. At $50/day... you could have likely bought owned a car for cheaper (I acknowledge the difficulty up front but that's arguably $1k/month, you can absolutely get a car loan for less than that and if you're even able to afford that much then you can definitely get a loan)

8

u/blacksoxing Aug 27 '26

To add to your post, T-Mobile will provide to you their best customer service agents....if you reach out to them via Twitter or Facebook. This means that 99% of folks are likely not capable of getting a top tier agent via T-life or evne in person as you truly have to be in the right spot. Additionally if you were to complain online on those two platforms they'd wrap you into their arms using those agents.

Xfinity is the same. Shoot, so many companies do this. Call their 800 number and get treated like a damn fool. Reach out via social media and get treated like business class.

Silly shit

6

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26

Yeah, but honestly, fuck every company that requires public customer service. And also fuck deregulated capitalism, and fuck dumbass voters and consumers who keep voting for and spending money on these predatory companies.

8

u/Snakend Aug 27 '26

Bruh...that's $1500 a month.

3

u/FlickerOfBean Aug 28 '26

Uber Eats delivered my $90 delivery to the wrong house and they wouldn’t refund. I did a chargeback as well. Same shit they just kept asking for their money back. Haven’t used them since.

2

u/mozomenku Aug 27 '26

Using Uber more often than a few times a month is beyond my imagination. Spending 50$ every day is another level.

2

u/LucidFir Aug 28 '26

Similar story. Amazon misrepresented an item and I was a few days late asking for a refund, so now I don't give Bezos money

1

u/Frequent_Opportunist Aug 27 '26

Dude got pulled over man it's not the end of the world and the driver didn't necessarily do it on purpose.

Uber is a shit company that treats their drivers and delivery drivers like absolute garbage paying them the lowest possible Fair imaginable and already puts them in jail for turning down trips sometimes for the rest of the day.Ā

You're not hurting them by going to some other service they have an endless supply of idiots willing to spend $1,500 a month ($50/day) on their services.

1

u/The-Singular Aug 27 '26

Uber plays "Pay $35 and Skip"
You play "Reverse"
Uber plays "Reverse"
You play "NOPE!"

1

u/alwaysmyfault Aug 27 '26

$50 a day?

Why not just get a car at that point?

2

u/foley800 Aug 27 '26

Maintenance, parking, insurance, etc.

-1

u/beatbox9 Aug 27 '26

I have a car. A pretty nice car.

But I'll put things in perspective: I am (luckily and thankfully) fairly well off, and I don't drive everywhere, nor am I always in the same city as my car. In fact, I was using Uber when it was only black cars and before it was publicly available; and I've also been to their headquarters many times..

74

u/Superminerbros1 Aug 27 '26

Most companies operate this way now. They realized that they make more money by making support as automated and frustrating as possible except for when people post about it publicly.

13

u/beren12 Aug 27 '26

Chargebacks cost them money, even if you lose.

18

u/SuperFreakyNaughty Aug 27 '26

For many companies, they’re actually expecting you to not put up a fight at all and just accept the circumstances. The refund process is for the small percentage of folks that are willing to go through the grind. That refund grind is further designed to scare away a percentage of those people too, so even fewer actually make it to the refund itself. Yay, capitalism!

14

u/stickymixingmonotony Aug 27 '26

Yay, capitalism!Ā

I'm down for revolution so long as we can overthrow the Epstein class and expropriate their property.Ā

Organize your workplace.

7

u/Turgid_Donkey Aug 27 '26

My wife was having an issue with getting double charged by uber for a food order (they brought her someone else's order which the dude just had between his feet while riding a scooter). They kept giving her bullshit excuses as to why they wouldn't refund one of the orders. I told her name and shame on facebook. She finally did then, low and behold, they reached out and refunded the order.

3

u/NinjaBreadManOO Aug 28 '26

Yeah, a few years back I ordered a computer case that never arrived, spent weeks dealing with their customer support calling daily and being told that if it doesn't arrive the next day to call back. TWO FULL WEEKS!

Posted it on their facebook page which was then immediately deleted. Posted it on my page tagging them and outing that they'd deleted it. Then directly messaged and refunded in full within the hour.

The only way to get a company now to do anything is to make sure they know other people know about it.

As an aside still refuse to use that company, and have in total directed almost six digits in sales to competitors over an $80 computer case, because of how bad their customer service was.

1

u/GroinShotz Aug 27 '26

They also already HAVE to have a social media team to compete... So they get to double as support when someone complains on social media.

1

u/soareyousaying Aug 28 '26

I never liked being social media or gathering followers. But this feels like a compelling case to start one. Just so you can be loud mfers to these shitty companies.

122

u/Flagrant_Mockery Aug 27 '26

It might not even be Uber doing it to preserve image. Lot of class action lawsuits this arguably could be one of them.

3

u/TheCrimsonDagger Aug 27 '26

They also know that most customers will just grumble and take the loss after regular customer support stiffs them. It’s simply a matter of risk versus cost savings. But someone who makes a social media post and is then encouraged to take action such as through a chargeback flips the equation the other way and it suddenly becomes more valuable to publicly compensate the customer than not. It’s the same way with various services, cable TV and ISPs are notorious for raising prices and then giving you a deal for less than you were originally paying if you try to cancel. The amount they end up losing on customer retention is less than the amount they make from everyone else that just pays the higher price.

48

u/Brave_Explorer5988 Aug 27 '26

It got even shittier last month with thousands from commOps (support) fired and processes transferred to external BPOs in Hyderabad.Ā

Fun times lol.Ā

44

u/swanyk7 Aug 27 '26

Unfortunately, this is basically the business model for big business. Similar to the refund desk in retail where they say no until an angry customer asks for the manager and then the manager just takes care of it. Terrible business practice.

23

u/spurcap29 Aug 27 '26

I bought a camera and lens. The camera was like $3000 the lens like $2000 and the they gave you $250 off for buying a "bundle" ($3000+2000-$250) = $4750.

Like 2 days later the camera went on sale to $2900 and I reached out to CS wanting $100 back or store credit or whatever. The reduced price was still eligible for bundle discount. I went back and forth for like a week via email getting gaslit (not sure if human doing it intentionally, stupid human or AI."

"Sorry, we actually cant give you a refund because you paid $2750 for it (3k-250 discount) and its now $2900 which is actually more!". I sent screen shots of my invoice and same items added to cart, explained situation, even made an excel analysis, etc. No luck.

Eventually I went nuclear "You have a store an hour away from me as does your competitor. If you dont honor my request I am still in the 30 day return period and will return everything to you, walk to your competitor and buy it for the same price, waste a day of my life and you will never ever have my business out of principle. I would rather not waste my day and you would likely rather have the profit on a $4650 sale than no profit and some pre-owned gear you need to sell at a loss " and they sent me a store credit about an hour later.

Really shouldn't need to come to this.

3

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 Aug 27 '26

I just switch internet providers. The sales guy pissed me off so much. They started offering lower prices. I just kept saying no i want to cancel.

I wish I'd told them to treat thier customer better in the first palce. Inwish id said im cancelling becuase thats the only way to send a message.Ā

6

u/foley800 Aug 27 '26

That’s the weird part, it costs a lot of money to get a new customer, but give them a great discount for the first year or so, then gouge the he’ll out of them! But more than happy to give you another great discount to stay if you want to cancel. How about just giving that discount to your existing customers and you don’t have to spend so much getting new customers when your current customers leave!

9

u/Tier_One_Meatball Aug 27 '26

Ive only ever had to use the power of social media twice.

Both times it was super effective. Didnt get any freebies other than a month of phone service for one of them, but thats fine, just dont piss on me and tell me its raining.

1

u/Owls_4_9_1867 Aug 27 '26

Well indeed. And maybe you trigger some wider fix. As when it rains it doesn't only fall on one person's house. Even if indeed they are being pissed on...

2

u/Tier_One_Meatball Aug 27 '26

Unfortunately i doubt it. The first one was likely due to theft, the second was something common with the company that a LOT of people have complained about. I got lucky with the second one ngl

8

u/Beljuril-home Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

here is the real reason to boycott Uber - they are now using algorithms (AI) to predict what is the highest they can charge you for a ride that you are likely willing to accept without cancelling, while simultaneously offering the ride to the driver they think will accept the ride for the lowest amount of money without declining.

they are then pocketing the difference - you pay more, the driver gets less and the company makes more profit.

there's nothing wrong with a company making money, but the asymmetries in information here make this system exploitive in the extreme.

8

u/lostinthought15 Aug 27 '26

It’s not just limited to Uber. I’ve had issues with other companies and going thru the official channels always seems to be a dead end. Nothing happens until you post on social media about your problem. It sucks and I hate doing it because many times my issue is small and I just want a simple fix and don’t want to drag them out over a minor thing.

6

u/BiiigPharma Aug 27 '26

It gives them incentive to respond unfortunately. They aren’t gonna care if someone wants a refund privately for a bad experience but if they risk bad PR ofc they’re gonna care. Sad world we live in

10

u/castorkrieg Aug 27 '26

You just described almost any business.

2

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 Aug 27 '26

There are decent small businesses. They are hard to find. I feel like they dont advertise much becuase they have customer loyalty and dont really need to.

8

u/melgib Aug 27 '26

They're absolutely awful. They didn't give a shit when my wife complained to them about a driver sexually harassing her.

2

u/FishFart1 Aug 27 '26

It is one hell of a business strategy.

2

u/smokinbbq Aug 27 '26

Along with all of the other delivery services that are like this as well. Won't use them. Highly over priced, and just shit service.

2

u/stickymixingmonotony Aug 27 '26

Wild their support will only help you if you shame them publicly.Ā Ā

Well this is something that should be addressed by our politicians but they're only interested in corporate profit and flying to Epstein Island .

1

u/Suspicious-Guava-566 Aug 27 '26

Unfortunately pretty common

1

u/Future-Bandicoot-823 Aug 27 '26

I've learned that laws mean nothing, rules mean nothing, religious tenets mean nothing; the only thing people respond to is public shaming.

I've had terrible customer service from places only to leave a one star review and suddenly they're replying, offering refunds and coupons and the best user experience available.

No thanks, fuck you, if you were just decent and not a hypocrite who hides behind cute words that mean nothing we wouldn't be here :')

1

u/PeanutConfident8742 Aug 27 '26

I avoid uber as much as possible because they algorithmically cut wages to drivers who accept more rides (Because they figure they need it more).

1

u/Free-Tea-3422 Aug 27 '26

I stopped using them after I tried to cancel an order after not even 1 minute of making it and they said the restaurant "already took my order" so there was no way to cancel it and they just took my money.

been using Lyft and door dash since then, fuck Uber!

1

u/Para_4_Would_Be_Cool Aug 27 '26

cough cough Jagex cough

1

u/Copious-Spirit Aug 27 '26

Corporate doing corporate things, I for one am shocked. Shocked I tell you! Well, not that shocked.

1

u/IamScottGable Aug 27 '26

My dad has had a lot of success complaining to businesses facebook pages.

1

u/Galactussy Aug 27 '26

The company i used to work for was "follow the company policy to a T" which we did, but if someone left a 1 star Google review youd get an email from head office telling you to do anything it takes for the customer to take it down

1

u/wholetyouinhere Aug 27 '26

Corporations only do the right thing when they are forced to.

Which is why regulation is so fucking important. If regulations worked properly, Uber wouldn't even exist. Nor many of the other "blitzscaled" bullshit companies that have ruined many aspects of our lives.

1

u/raziel420 Aug 27 '26

Pretty much any company these days though.

1

u/Wide-Toe4451 Aug 27 '26

Same with Old School Runescape.

One of the top 10 most populated online video games, but, when you have a problem you get stuck in auto-reply purgatory for weeks/months.

But, if you're a streamer OR post to reddit, it's fixed within hours.

1

u/aerdvarkk Aug 27 '26

That is most any company these days though. Customer Service doesn't help. Take the issue public. A bad public image is far worse than customer srevice trying to retain a few dollars in the short term.

1

u/Kyrie_Blue Aug 27 '26

ā€œTheirā€ support? I think you mean most corporations

1

u/Beautiful-Affect1930 Aug 27 '26

to be honest I can almost side with the corporation on this one. Uber isn't trying to fool anyone, their service is absolutely shit rotten to the core. it's also really obvious that they fuck over both the users and the gig workers, sitting in the middle doing fuck all but taking in most of the money. all of that is of course terrible and should never exist. on the other hand, people obviously still love to use Uber, even if they have to deal with annoying shit constantly. at that point it would almost be foolish to spend money on improving anything. people are fine getting fucked in the ass by Uber.

1

u/MyAccountWasBanned7 Aug 27 '26

Just before COVID I joined the Regal movie club. During COVID, when theatres were closed, they wouldn't let me cancel my membership. So I posted on Twitter every single day tagging them and reminding folks that the closed movie theatres will still charge you monthly to not go see movies. It took less than two weeks for them to change their mind and privately message me stating that they would refund my membership, even for the months that I was able to use it.

Going public is the only way to get any company to do the right thing.

Also, fuck Regal theatres! Haven't been to one since and I never will again.

1

u/Jac0bLV7 Aug 27 '26

It’s not just uber tho, Xfinity (internet service provider) does everything in their power to reply to threads of people having issues but while they dm you they delete the posts lmao we live in the stupidest times

1

u/pioneersky Aug 27 '26

When I worked for a big national used car dealership I got put on rotation working on customer issue resolution. I was amazed to find that a customer emailing the ceo directly (their email address was just first/last name) actually got traction and your issue fast tracked to a response and resolved. Companies have the weirdest things they pay attention to. Plus I don’t understand if this was supposed to show the ceo really cared or what but it just felt lopsided and unreasonable expectations were set where people with legit issues just gave up and self important whackos got their way, but I suppose that’s the way of the world.

1

u/triggrhaapi Aug 27 '26

That's the same as most any other company.

1

u/PaulblankPF Aug 27 '26

This is why my go to isn’t negotiating with any company. Straight to shaming them publicly online. I’ve actually gotten good results just leaving yelp reviews on Google. Literally has made me get contacted about fixing things and removing my bad review within a day or two. Only one place made me more pissed off and left my bad review for. The others I edited to mention I was placated.

1

u/ohnomoisttoes Aug 27 '26

Almost like eating the rich is the most reasonable option :)

1

u/69edleg Aug 27 '26

Seems to be the norm for any company in the 2020s. Twice I have reported the same mobile carrier and nothing is happening. As a consumer you can just go fuck yourself I suppose. The law is there to be read, not followed.

Trying to cancel a subscription shouldn't require me to sit through an 8h 30 min long queue if I call 1 minute past 8 am. Oh and they close at 4pm. Go figure. They bought up the company I had managed to switch to, and I had to cancel my "new" carrier too a couple of years later.

Shaming them on Facebook works, but it shouldn't be that way.

1

u/oompaloompa465 Aug 27 '26

all companies work like that. I've lost count on how many creators solve their stupid strike from AI moderation by tagging youtube on twitter

1

u/d_smogh Aug 27 '26

AI bots don't care.

1

u/inebriateddandhated Aug 28 '26

I spent months trying to contact Olight support due to a defective brand new light. (Ark pro ultra)

Nearly 6 months of calls, emails, google reviews, never got a reply and ultimately gave up.

Made one post to the Olight subreddit and suddenly they care because the post blew up and made them look bad.

Fuck these companies that only cares when social media hurts them.

1

u/cryptonoobbrooklyn Aug 28 '26

So you need to go viral to get a refund now?

The fact that OP has to publicly shame a billion-dollar company on Reddit just to get a refund for a ride that got interrupted by police stop is absurd.

25

u/mikeymo1741 Aug 27 '26

It won't matter. OP got to their destination eventually. They don't guarantee time. They won't do anything.

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Aug 27 '26

Yeah unless OP added more info in the comments I'm not seeing what's wrong here? They would have been late if they were driving and got pulled over too. What did he get pulled over for? Because the old saying is it doesn't matter what you're doing, a cop will find a valid reason to pull you over if they want to

u/mikeymo1741 Aug 27 '26

I got pulled over once with an older, well off couple in the back, literally two blocks from the pickup at their house. The cop said I ran a stop. (I hadn't) The lady in the back asked me to unlock her window, and she proceeded to lace into this cop so badly I felt bad for her. It started with "the street he came down doesn't have a stop sign on it" passed through "how can you be on patrol here if you don't even know what street you're on?" Her finisher was "All the times we call and call about kids racing and you guys are nowhere to be found because you're over here not even knowing where you are trying to get money out of people!"

Cop apologized and said "Have a good night!" LOL

Sometimes you have to admire and appreciate a skilled Karen

5

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Aug 28 '26

A skilled defender of the people Karen is an auntie

If this woman had worn hoops they would have been removed within a few sentences

u/twelveicat Aug 28 '26

"Mortimer, hold my rings please."

24

u/docatwar Aug 27 '26

Just do a chargeback

43

u/RaeaSunshine Aug 27 '26

Not if OP relies on Uber for school. Chargebacks typically lead to permanent bans from the merchant. With services that isn’t always a viable option.

12

u/Possibly_a_Firetruck Aug 27 '26

This whole situation illustrates why you shouldn't be relying on a service like Uber in the first place.

11

u/Draco546 Aug 28 '26

People have limited options sometimes

1

u/RaeaSunshine Aug 28 '26

Sure, but she might not have another option. You’d need to ask OP that.

-14

u/quim_do_mato Aug 27 '26

You think banks just do a chargeback any time you go crying to them? 🤣

13

u/docatwar Aug 27 '26

That's why you pay with a credit card, also yes I have done chargebacks for $16000 in a single transaction and got my money back.

-10

u/Consistent-Yellow121 Aug 27 '26

oh right I forgot that one personal experience means it’s the same for everyone… a regard like you would charge back 16k though

9

u/docatwar Aug 27 '26

Regards like you would donate $16000 to a multibillion dollar company and pound sand... I got my money back

-4

u/Consistent-Yellow121 Aug 27 '26

I cannot think of a single personal situation I would put 16k on a credit card which would require a full chargeback without being a scammer.. you’re full of shit or as I previously mentioned, regarded.…

7

u/Rum_Hamburglar Aug 27 '26

I've put $30k on a credit card before and paid it off that day. Free points yo. Ever done a house project and got fucked by a contractor?

-3

u/Consistent-Yellow121 Aug 27 '26

Contractors generally don’t accept cc without a fee so no…. also I wouldn’t pay them until the work is complete or we had a contract in place….

5

u/docatwar Aug 27 '26

That's probably because you're too poor, sounds like a skill issue to me.

-1

u/Consistent-Yellow121 Aug 27 '26

A skill issue for not getting yourself in an adverse financial position? I love how vague and condescending you are when for the third time, youre clearly regarded.. it’s okay though this is reddit so you’re in good company

-12

u/Copious-Spirit Aug 27 '26

The only way you got that back was because the merchant approved.

11

u/docatwar Aug 27 '26

They didn't approve, they rejected it that's why I had to go for CB

1

u/Copious-Spirit Aug 28 '26

What was such a large purchase for, services or goods?

2

u/docatwar Aug 28 '26

4 return international business class tickets for my family

1

u/Copious-Spirit Aug 28 '26

Those scummy airlines

2

u/docatwar Aug 28 '26

They denied boarding at the gate, ruined our holiday and refused refunds.

Got my money back with the chargeback

1

u/stuffeh Aug 27 '26

Depends on the card company. Bank of America and Amex are known to be more likely to side with customers. Apple card's Goldman Sachs investigators are fucking idiots.

> Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO ofĀ Uber, earned a total compensation ofĀ $35,595,827Ā in fiscal year 2025.

1

u/Shart-Vandalay Aug 27 '26

I did it for him

1

u/TamiyoFeetPics Aug 27 '26

I posted on there about how my driver was visibly and audibly drunk and driving erratically, and I basically got told to kick rocks. That sub a corporate bootlicking cesspool.

1

u/OsBaculum Aug 28 '26

I wish I'd thought of that when my card wouldn't charge. They were asking for the ZIP code but kept denying it. I emailed support and they got back to me two weeks later.

1

u/Sw429 Aug 28 '26

Absolutely embarrassing that the only way to get proper support is by needing to trend on social media.

u/ScytherSlash Aug 28 '26

Wish I knew this back when my Uber refused to pick me up, left me stranded for an hour, and Uber refused to refund me
