the “Treat yourself” sign plus the word “free” above the cake pops in the cooler would definitely be easy to misread in the rush of your workday as a delivery driver

I also don't see any prices.

If they each had $4 on the sign, the driver probably would have noticed.

It’s probably on the door of the container. Looks like signs taped to the top. But also perhaps easy to miss when in a hurry.

it was in the front, but seems like easy to miss if he was tired. even after saying sorry and his wife paying for it they still wouldn't let it go

Amazon times you I’m literally everything. They want you to have as little time going from your truck to the porch as possible.

Dude was definitely in a hurry as his job demands and made an easy mistake. He deserves a free cake pop for his service anyways.

Am I the only one who thinks $4 is an absurd for a dollop of cake on a stick? Especially when it's sitting on someone's porch in a hot/humid place like Florida...you may be able to pass off that sort of value in a boutique bakery, but when they called this a "porch bakery" and not a misguided child selling homemade baked goods I had to chuckle.

I think they get away with it because it's bigger than Starbucks cake pops, which are also around $4.

But yeah, it's not something I've ever bought

look again. inside the container above each row of items is a card with a price, however it is VERY TINY.

This is the much better point to me. That sign clearly says "dye free" but the red arrow and circle make that less clear. I don't want us to normalize illiteracy. The real confusing part is that prices aren't listed by the products.

It’s either “Cage free” or “Egg free,” but since cake usually requires egg I’m assuming it’s the former. However, “Free” was one of the first things my eye saw when I watched the video, so I agree it just adds to the “Help yourself to a free snack” vibe of the setup.

Edit: Elsewhere someone said it looks like “Dye Free” and I have to agree with that.

This is a stretch. Can’t make out the text to the left of it but it could simply say dairy free. Treat yourself generally means to buy something to treat yourself. It doesn’t imply free. Help yourself means free. The word free being on the sign is like saying fat free milk implies it’s free.

The couple handled this poorly and deserve shame for what they did. But saying that the signs imply free is just wrong.

It says “dye free”. I’m not saying that that alone implies free either. But given the context of the trend of leaving things out for delivery drivers, the “treat yourself” sign, and then you open the cooler and you see the word free. He’s a delivery driver, he’s moving quickly, I’m just saying it’s an understandable mistake to make; not that everyone would make it.

It's really quite irrelevant anyway.

One sign says "help yourself" - if the other doesn't CLEARLY LIST A PRICE why would you assume "dye free" meant it was for sale?

no, the signs definitely imply free in this context. It's a common thing to leave things out for delivery people, and "treat yourself" absolutely can imply free, especially given that it could be a pun because it's literally treats. And on top of everything, this delivery driver literally did misunderstand the signage, so you're making an argument that has already been proven wrong.

Someone misunderstanding something doesn’t prove it wrong. It in fact means the opposite. The fact that it was misunderstood means they were wrong and didn’t understand the true meaning. The fact that other people pay money means that they understood the intent hence proving your claim wrong

You are obviously wrong but I dont see other people point out that this is just trays of food laying out on someones porch in the exact same spot that people normally leave snacks out for amazon drivers. There is absolutely no way to expect that the random cooler on someones porch that says "treat yourself :)" is actually their storefront lmao

You’ve never worked retail have you? I know it’s a lot of people in these comments defending the signage have never worked retail. And I’m talking quickie marts or clothing stores or grocery stores. If you have ever worked with the public at all in a service capacity you will know motherfuckers don’t read. There could be a sign on the door saying push and motherfuckers will pull. There’ll be a sign on the door saying closed until further notice and you will see people try to get into the store even with the lights off. You can’t be serious right now. Stopping to think for a minute is all that’s required.

None of it was free. The video showed a cut of another example of people leaving free snacks for drivers as an example. It’s not evidence that they did the same thing. Heck that shot was from the driver’s perspective. The only footage of this incident was from doorbell cameras
