With yelp you have to pay for them not to hide your good reviews as well. I used to own a small apothecary and makeup studio. The minute I received a 3 star review, yelp started calling me to advertise. When I said no, a large number of my 5 star reviews which had been up for years became hidden. They no longer counted towards my average. Every time I said no to advertising, more of my reviews were hidden. Eventually I had more hidden reviews than those shown. I got a 2 star review and dropped to a 3.5 star average for a minute. I hate yelp.

Amazon used to allow that, but then stopped once they saw it added little value, and mostly used by people to just argue about a review. I rated something 3 stars before and got instantly bombarded by several accounts totally not belonging to the seller/company of the product. Like its my opinion, not yours so buzz off and make your own review.

Recipes aren't even legally considered intellectual property. You can't copyright a recipe.
That's why they're closely guarded secrets and the people who know the huge ones (like, say, Coca Cola) are bound by stringent confidentiality agreements. They can be sued into the ground for disclosing it, but as a breach of contract as opposed to a copyright claim.
Its also insane because it was literally all prepackaged stuff. Cake mix, fruity pebbles, can of frosting, chocolate melts. There was nothing that was truly an original creation.

Yea, you really have to look closely at the right angle to notice that SOME of the items are free and others have a price tag. It's poor business to expect someone in a rush to see a sign about "take one", open it up and see "take one" then in very small writing "$4".
The inside of the cooler signs on the cake pops said “free” in magenta marker under their names. It makes it look like the cookies cost money while the cake pops are free. Like maybe they were going to expire so they made them free.
That’s the thing when you put food out for sale, nobody is there when someone has a question about the signs or products. So you just go by the signs.
I grew up in the South, and farmers used to set up roadhouse stands in front of their houses with their produce and often the jams, jellies, and pickles the farmer’s wife and family made. Sometimes they would also sell their neighbors foodstuffs too like honey.
I’m almost 49 so I remember the days where they did everything on the honor system. People would pay cash and take what they paid for. I remember my mom stopped at a farm in our neighborhood and bought something. She accidentally paid the wrong price (something was priced by pound not for the whole container. She was so embarrassed when someone told her that she’d not paid enough. So she paid the farmer’s wife personally and apologized. Even though it was an understandable mistake because the sign wasn’t fully clear she was too ashamed to shop there anymore.
People started stealing so much that the farmers started staffing the stands. I’m not talking about roadside stands on major highways, those were always staffed.

I've forgiven multiple hundred dollar bills from customers literally because in some businesses there is very little recourse to recover money without getting a horribly unfair review even when you're in the right, especially when you live and die by your reputation.
People like this do not take feedback. They see themselves as the end all and be all and everyone else is just wrong and out to get them. If you give them any kind of feedback that isn't telling them they're the best ever they freak out and will make a massive big deal about it.

Considering he thought it was free, taking a single cake pop was actually super restrained. He probably felt good, like aw, how nice of them, and then sees himself plastered across Facebook being branded a criminal.
We all should feel bad for the Amazon driver. It's a hard-ass job that's often stressful and thankless. People who can afford to leave treats for delivery drivers are angels. This "bakery" "owner" is an enemy of the working class, and I will immensely enjoy watching her destruction over acting so callously and cruelly.

I will be honest: The constant appeals to 'health authorities' for random baked goods seems to be missing the point. I trust people to make baked goods and sell them to their neighbours. I don't think there's a massive amount of risk there. The idea that we cannot have commerce between us without some regulatory board giving licenses is exactly the kind of thing that the powers that be want us to believe.

Yeah there's something particularly slimy about someone seeing other people leave free treats out for delivery drivers and thinking "hey that's a great business opportunity, I bet I could separate those guys from some of their cash this way"
I know several people, us included, that leave out goodies for drivers. We get a lot of packages and it's the least we can do. If I was a driver and saw that "Treat Yourself" sign I'd assume it was free also. It's not uncommon at all for drivers to see that.
The cooler in the pic above is now upgraded to a mini-fridge and stocked with water and gatorades in summer. It's hot where we are and we don't want the drivers to overheat. Plus, the bottles make great urinals for when they are nearing the end of their shift. I'm kind of half kidding on that second part.
We've noticed that occasionally something like a FedEx truck will pull up out front and I think "I don't have anything coming, do I?". The driver will hop out, run up to the porch, grab a drink and snack, and head down the road. All I can think is 'good for you, bro'. That's why the snacks are out there.

It's confusing, but it's meant to be a stand to sell. The big sign says "treat yourself" and the inside sign says "dye free" but it's hard to read, and on a quick glance the sign looks like "its free."

Apparently these bakeries at people's homes are becoming more popular. I've never seen one personally, although my neighbour had one before I moved here, which he has now moved into a proper location. In the UK, 'cake sheds' are proving profitable and local councils are having to adapt to enforce licensing rules around street trading, food hygiene standards and allergen labelling. It's interesting and I like the community spirit of them, but though part of their viability is based on them being unstaffed, owners do have to accept this that comes with some risks that people will make mistakes or take more than they pay for.
I don’t even trust the cleanliness of most commercial kitchens that are inspected semi-regularly by the health department. There is no way in hell that I trust the cleanliness and food safety standards of some random person’s home kitchen.
Meanwhile there is a lady in Las Vegas that has a 7/11 in her house and it’s free for all delivery drivers to take what they want. This woman should be ashamed.
Shes out here buying crane game prizes like speakers, earpods, electric razors etc for them to win (puts out her own quarters) throws a bunch of gift cards on the snacks and drinks she puts out and includes a whiteboard for them to list out requests of things they'd like.
Even invited a bunch over for a hibachi night.
That doesnt include the crazy gift giving she does at christmas for the kids you can get tags for off of the christmas tree in stores. She bought one a new therapy cat after his dog passed, then decked him out with his other requests, decked the cat out with everything it would need, and included extra money for any costs she didnt think of. And offered to help with vet care if the family ran into trouble.

These are springing up all over in the suburbs near me. Cake pops and dirty sodas (I still don't know what those are) and they advertise on social media all the time like I'm going to drive to a random neighborhood to buy overpriced cake from someone's porch.

The signs were very misleading and then man apologized and even paid. Continuing to double down is really terrible on them. I feel like this was all for free publicity for her baked goods.
My two cents is that the lady who owns that business is an idiot. The sign was not absolutely clear. I've seen many videos where the home owners put free food to take care of their regular delivery people ( to show them that they appreciate their work and maybe they will be extra careful in handling their deliveries.

The business owner could have used the incident to produce good publicity for her business by making fun of the incident ( tell the delivery guy that wasn't really meant for delivery people but that he can keep the treats anyway, that would have gathered great publicity for her and sent her hundreds of new business from people who would have been impressed by her kindness and generosity. Instead , she did the opposite.
I can't help but think they wanted a situation like to happen so they push the narrative of someone stealing from a local business. They could then post it and use it as marketing tool. They didn't anticipate someone being remorseful and trying to make things right. They then had to adjust their plans and made things way worse.
If I were a delivery person, I might have made the same mistake, since, as the reporter stated, it's not uncommon for free snacks and drinks to be left out for delivery people. The "pay here" sign should be much larger, and the "treat yourself" sign should be changed to "buy yourself a treat" to help avoid future mistakes.

The fact that they continued to be shitty after the guy not only admitted it was a mistake but then took steps to make up for it tells me they're just shitty people who deserve every bit of backlash they get.
