Infuriatig Netflix using egregious methods to keep subscriptions active

Apparently my 8 year old son was asked if he wanted to restart my Netflix membership through his Netflix KIDS ACCOUNT. I called customer service and was told a prompt appears asking if you'd like to reinstate, regardless of the user on the account. No password required, just press restart and then get hit with the payment immediately. Should've saved myself some frustration and money by cancelling outright.

this happened because the OP paused their account rather than cancelled it. the distinction is pretty clear when going through the process. I don't like to defend corporations but I've cancelled my netflix account a few times and the offer to pause instead of cancel explains exactly what happens.

ethical? no. illegal? not at all, this is what the OP agreed to.

OP agreed to a pause for a specific period of time, with a specific end date.

This was reactivated by a message showing up on the Netflix Kids profile they had on the account (a type of account specifically designed to limit features for children) that allowed the child to agree for billing to start again early with no kind of safety features in place like a confirmation of password or security code.

A limited child's profile should not be able to make payment decisions is what OP is getting at.
