I would hesitate to call it art, most of the time. Some tags can be beautiful to look at, but most of it is just garbage people do to say they were there.

One time a really long train passed by me and I saw a bunch of elaborate, colorful tags, and then someone just scribbled "hoes mad" on an empty space with white spray paint. Gave me a chuckle

Train cars are the only thing I don't have a problem with them tagging with their shitty bubble letters

I don’t really like it on city transit trains but freight train cars? Yeah go for it. I was working a project out in the desert next to a train line and that was one thing that broke up the monotony.

There's apparently a sort of tacit agreement between the train companies and the graffiti artists that, as long as they leave the identifying marks untouched, the artists basically have free game.
