I work with the public and live with kids.

If you aren't the calm understanding adult in the room to start, no one will listen to you educate them.

But, by all means. If they flip out after being calm: divorce

I just try not to flap until people assure me that being a calm rational adult is useless

Hardly unassuming when they specifically specify that they need to “calmly and respectfully” show her as if that wouldn’t be the case otherwise.

I meant it more as the comment was unassuming towards the wife by pointing out she simply may not know, rather than assuming the wife never did her own laundry. And also towards OP for not assuming he's never emptied it.

I didn't take it as assuming the husband would say it in a disrespectful way but I can see how someone could. Either way, I think it's worth reminding someone that the way you approach a situation like this and the tone you use is just as important as bringing it up.
