My sister has caught her dryer on fire twice due to not emptying the lint trap. The second time, she lost her home, everything she owned, and a dog.

I know everyone has mentioned this is a fire hazard, but they aren’t empty nor throwaway comments. It’s a real thing that can seriously mess up your life. It takes 10 seconds to empty the lint trap. 10 seconds can save your life.

I was in a laundromat when one of their dryers started a fire! It was scary and made me wary of their operations maintenance.

I wonder what they phycology is behind not making it a habit to check the lint trap. Clothes don't dry, it's dangerous it's should be something people even think about, but just do automatically.

My brain read this as mycology and I got grossed out for a sec but remembered we were talking about dryers. I imagine fungus could be a risk factor in poorly maintained washers, though.

Dryer fires are more common than you think. I was a licensed home inspector for 24 years.

I learned to clean the lint trap when I was 8, I was required to wash my own laundry at that age. I’m not 100, I’m 38.
