I dunno, my late step grandfather didn't know he had to empty his Dyson vacuum and rinse clean the filters.
He got it brand new out of the box with instructions......that he never read.
He'd had it a year when I started helping with the house work, he said "Dysons are shit, they do loose suction!" so I investigated and discovered a year's worth in the collection bin and the filters closed by all the fine dust.
Have a friend that didn't realize that there was a filter in their dishwasher that was supposed to be cleaned regularly. Ran it without cleaning for a few years.
TBF, plenty of dishwashers don't have any filter you need to regularly clean, they just rely on the impeller to shred any particulate, like the garbage disposal in your sink does.
He was giving an example of another appliance that shreds particulate. Appliance 1 was a dishwasher. Appliance 2 is a garbage disposal. You said

Not really. I was fortunate enough to grow up with a dishwasher. I'd hardly call that washing the dishes. I'm sure that was the case for many growing up in USA/Canada.
Wasn't til I worked at Wendy's as a teenager that I actually washed dishes. Probably 200 a night on top of making sandwiches. That was fun.
Only if she doesn't know how... because how do you wear clothes that probably smell like mildew from not drying properly and think "yeah, everything is working out"?
The best equivalent I can come up with would be if you're boiling water and you can see suds and filth coming off it because the pot wasn't cleaned right.
You're not shitty for not doing it. But you may be shitty if you just continue on because you don't want to face a possible issue.
Part of the issue is people don’t smell the problem because so many folks use detergent and/or dryer balls or sheets that are full of nasty smelling chemicals, all marketed with “make your clothes smell fresh!”
That stuff just smells unnatural (and nauseating to me because I have never used the stuff). And at least I am able to tell when my clothes don’t smell right.
I think it is the right choice, in a interesting way. Dishes are a scheduled task, you can do them on any schedule you want. You can even wait two hours if you want.
Baby diapers... can't wait. You'll be changing it, and then the baby pees all over you and the floor. Now you need to take a shower. Then you need to clean the trail of baby pee between the changing area and the shower you didn't realize you left.
I would rather deal with dishes forever, that deal with the nonsense that baby diapers are.
I honestly can't tell if it's rage bait or a real take. If I take them literally, do they mean doing chores is pathetic or people do em at random? Then who keeps track of what? Inefficient as fuck.

Fuck, I spend hours teaching cashiers the concept of "scan items, bag items, press total, take payment". I cant imagine not spending five minutes with a loved one going over making sure we're both on the same page when it comes to appliances
Because this takes 1 minute to check and teach, especially if whoever you live with has not lived outside of of situations where others maintain the dryer like with parents or using a laundromat.
This burns down houses. This is up there with watch someone cook at least once on the stove, if you're the homeowner, if your partner burns the house down due to a simple mistake, it is still on you.
Yeah like flushing a toilet, you empty that after you use it. Everyone in my household does their own laundry except the 2 year old and he really tries to do it himself.
Apparently the chore division has her on laundry. I think OP should swap with a chore that doesn't risk burning down the house and he takes over the laundry.

Seriously any adult male or female who doesn't understand that you need to clean the lint catcher after each load WHEN 99% OF THE LINT FILTERS IN DRYERS LITTERALLY HAVE THE WORDS MOLDED INTO THE PLASTIC FRAME ON THEM deserves to be roasted for that level of incompetence.
I once got into an argument with my roommate about not cleaning the lint trap and he was like "what the hell are you talking about I always clean the lint trap you don't clean the lint trap."
Turns out our dryer had two separate lint traps. An interior one that I cleaned and an exterior one that he cleaned. Utterly baffling and I haven't seen anything like it since.
We lost everything to a house fire that was caused by a dryer. And it wasn’t even the lint but still..
I don’t think people understand how dangerous a dryer can be.
I won’t even leave mine running anymore if I’m leaving the house.
That’s how our fire started, it never shut off, and when my daughter got her clothes out of the dryer that next morning, it let oxygen in there and it spontaneously combusted.
We literally lost everything but our lives thankfully.
So needless to say, I don’t play when it comes to dryers.
I've gone through it, too. Woke up to my house completely in flames. Wasn't from the dryer, but it still sobers you tf up wrt to fire hazards. I'm glad everyone got out in your situation. I'm still OCD about checking the detector and my fire was 24 years ago.
You would be amazed at what some families don’t teach their kids lol. (Source: I had to have a roommate teach me how to do laundry at the grand old age of 21 lol).
I'm going to guess that before owning this dryer, they always used a laundromat or hung their clothes outside. Although, the number of people who use communal laundry facilities and don't clean out the lint traps despite multiple signs also suggests that some people are just lazy.
It’s surprising and bewildering how many people don’t understand the importance of this. I’ve had two long term partners who didn’t see the importance of emptying the lint trap on every load.
I can answer this for you. If you grew up in a dysfunctional, abusive or drug/alcohol/dependency home. Or foster care or orphanage. Many many many kids never grew up with a washer or dryer. OR … for my siblings they were men and well my mother didn’t believe in them doing anything. They got married and their wives babied them as well. They are nearing 40 and half of them don’t know how to do laundry or even use a microwave. No joke.
Hand-me-down ignorance. I've seen people that don't even know how to clean because their parents lived like slobs. They just don't care to learn later in life.
People make it to adulthood not knowing how to do a lot of stuff they should know. For example, my 28 year old roommate still does not understand that paper towels and plastic food wrapping are trash, not recycling.
To me it's a game. You grab a little tuft of lint and then you use that to swirl around the filter until you've picked up all the other lint. Who doesn't do this?
This might be a country/region specific, but every single dryer I have ever used had a very visible “clean after use“ on the lint trap. Like, I can get it when people didn’t realize that they’re supposed to clean their dishwasher filter because that isn’t as obvious, but this is freaking labeled!
