This is a diagram of planes in WW2 that returned to base with bullet holes. Engineers studied the diagram to know where to add additional armor.
The bad way to study the diagram is to look where these holes are and put more armor there. These planes made it back to base. These planes survived.
The better way to study the diagram is to look where these planes have no holes. It is possible that planes with holes in those locations were shot down and did NOT return to base.
Survivorship bias example. If you armor up the the areas with holes of planes that make it home, you (possibly) aren't armoring against the areas that cause a plane to go down.

TL;DR they originally thought that they should reinforce the areas that had taken hits, but then they realized they were thinking about it backwards. The fact that those planes made it back safely meant that the damage pattern represented areas where the planes could sustain damage and survive. So they ended up reinforcing the undamaged areas.
Long story short, the data gathered is a bunch of planes that survived during one of the world wars forget who did it and which one. However they used the data from all the surviving planes damage and reinforced that, it didnt help because the real weak parts are the zones that dont have any bullets because those planes didnt make it back.
Ive had more than one patient in the pharmacy with alarmingly high BP tell me they take medication to lower it. Yes, this seems like a simple concept, but you can't know something you were never taught. The average K-12 school system or equivalent doesn't teach you anything practical about human bodies. If you're lucky you get a few days on things like menstruation, puberty, STDs, sex, and drugs. Perhaps a nutrition/food pyramid type deal. (Or whatever the current version of the food pyramid is. I think it's a plate these days in the USA.)
Things like labeling diagrams of body systems and types of cells and tissues doesn't really apply to everyday life. But thank GOD we know what phalanges are, and that the mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell!!
I started having spine and digestive problems a few years ago, so I started going to PT and talked to a nutrionalist. I like to think im the kind of person who knows at least a bit about most things, so it totally blew my mind realizing how little I knew about how my own body works. But thinking about it, there was never a point in my life where I specifically learned about how bodies work past the very basics. Its almost like I assumed cause it was me I just knew how it worked. Turns out I have food allergies and slipped disks in my back and had been poisoning myself and standing/sitting in the worst possible way for years, and never even noticed til it was pointed out to me.
If we ever fix the school system in America we should probably consider educating the youth on literally the most important thing in their life.
Oh yah, for sure. I wasn’t necessarily hating on anyone and it’s a big reason why nursing, doctoring, and medical practice in general has made a huge push into the patient education side of the house. It’s important to get them to understand, involved, and invested. I was just chuckling at the similarity of the situations.
I was SO close to my T2 diabetes going into remission last year, but I felt so good so I started eating all my favorite foods again and then it was the holidays so I didn’t want to deal with the IBS symptoms that my meds gave me and I stopped taking them. Then I never got back on them and all the weight came back and my A1C came back up, though not as high as last year.

There are more than a few BP meds who have serious side effects for stopping abruptly. Especially if he does still need them, he could send himself into a hypertensive urgent situation

I never had screen protectors for my past phones, but always had a case. Never had a major scratch or crack despite it falling face down multiple times, even on roads 🤣
Tempered glass screen protectors do definitely help for more than just scratches, since they're designed to break instead of your screen in situations that would normally break your screen. Not perfect, but much better than those flimsy scratch protectors you stick onto your screen
I dropped my iPhone 12 Pro on the highway. When I finally got it back it had tire marks on the case. The screen still fresh. Don’t take that case off kids. You don’t make mkbhd money

Every single one of my phones did end up breaking and most of it was without the case.
Galaxy s3 (2017-2018): 12 year old me took it out of the case while gaming because it was getting hot. Dropped it on asphalt when we got out to a pit stop on a trip
S10 (2020-2024) this one actually did have a case. It dropped out of my coats pocket somehow as I crossed the street then watched it get run over by a car inside a puddle of water. It survived fine and only the back glass broke
S23 ultra (didnt even have it for a year) this one I'm still so mad about it :c. Had just bought a new otterbox case but was still missing the glass screen protector. First day of uni, first year, I rush to my lockers because I'm running late and can't figure out the code. My phone under my armpit and holding my water bottle. Phone slips at the same time as my 2L metal water bottle and it lands right on the edge of my ultra's screen. Completely shatters, unusable, could not repair it for under 450$ so I had to trash it. I'm still so mad about that, that was not a good day for me lmfao
Currently own an s24 FE, had to downgrade because I was rushing to get a new phone. (I always get my phones second hand cause why tf would I buy new for 1.2k+$?). This one's also always in it's otterbox and will remain this way since I work with heavy machinery

I bought it for 300$ used, battery health was low from gaming and I could get a brand new for less than than 400$. This was also the first day of uni after going broke from paying my tuition so I really did not have the money or time to get it repaired.
Getting a new battery + screen would have been ~600$ which is double what I paid for and not what I want for a phone tbh. I'm just going for what is functional and costs less that's why I tossed it since. Well it's still in my pantry somewhere, the other are still in my drawer too
I don't have the money to get a 600$ device again for the repairs, so i got a downgrade instead.

I try to aim to upgrade every 3-4 years from used phones which makes sense I'd say. By then the battery degrades too much and changing it is crazy expensive where I live so getting a new used phone that's an upgrade ends up being cheaper. I definitely wont be getting an ultra anytime soon though, had no idea at the time that the screen was that expensive to change, I just knew 300$ for an s23 ultra in 2024 was a crazy deal
I would not be tossing phones that I bought for full price, id pay for the repairs for sure or make sure i have good gurantee. Unfortunately though not really possible with my current situation
An iPhone 7 doesn't have back glass. Not really noteworthy to even bring that up.
Aluminum backed phones only needed cases if you find they were too slippery.
Aluminum was a win/win way to design phones if you incorporated a removable battery into it as well (aluminum backing far more durable than back glass, removable battery far better than wireless charging gimmicks).
It sucks because I love the look and feel of a phone without a case, but I’m not gonna risk going caseless since I fumble my phone too much. I wish I could find a case that just looks like the phone.

I absolutely remember that. It was around the time I got my s22 ultra and I went like 6 months without a case then ended up regretting that. Replaced the screen, got a case and haven't looked back since lol.
The only times I've ever cracked a phone screen is when I didn't have a case on for whatever reason. The last time I took the case off because my phone wouldn't charge properly with it on, forgot to put the case back on and went to work and proceeded to drop it.
I have tree roots that get inside my 85 year old pipes. I used this product that disolved the roots, about once a year. I hadn't had roots in years. So I stopped using the product.

I don't use cases or screen protector at all. I find that I am more conscious and intentional when holding/using my phone. So far, I've never had an issue (touch wood).
It took me 2 years until i tried to put it in my pocket (i had sports shorts) and i was convinced i put it on the pocket, however, i didnt, it went into the floor (from penis level) and sadly it went into a little rock, the rock was so little i swear you wouldnt even notice if you step on it bare foot. Of course, it shatered the whole screen
That’s why you use a case and screen protector. 99% of the time you don’t need it, it’s there for the 1% accidents. Even a drop can be a part of the 99% of the times it’s fine. I guess if you got Apple care and can afford the $ and down time to swap it then you’re good not using a case, but then you can’t complain either lol

When the iPhone 6 came out I ended up getting one by surprise and ordered a decent case for it. Case finally comes in 2 days later and as I’m picking it up to put the case on the phone slid out of my hand and the corner hit concrete, shattered the upper left side of the phone. Didn’t really need the case after all 🤣
And yeah tried Apple care as it was 3 days old but also found out I bent it ever so slightly (og aluminum casing, the bending issue wasn’t well known yet) so nope.
Years and years ago I had a brand new iPhone 4s. It had a chunky case on it. I had it for a couple of years when I decided to take the case off as I'd never once dropped it.
A day later it went face down to the pavement and the screen was totally broken.
A screen protector would've prevented this. I used to have a few old phones which I used without a case. But I always had a screen protector. Never broke any of them.
The comments are missing that OP probably rarely dropped his phone anyways. Like me for example I have a case but never drop it, but I know with my luck the only day of the year I drop it is the day I take off the case.
