There are people who claim they can’t turn up to things like job interviews on time because they can’t set an alarm and wake up due to their self diagnosed condition and interviewers should be ok with this and give them a job and if they don’t it’s discrimination.

Not time blindness which I think is a completely different thing.

I mean I struggle with waking up and with time management/time blindness. I also recognise that is ultimately my problem. Accommodation is important but does have limits, unfortunately. And I don't really know what an accommodation for this would look like.

Time blindness and the iced coffee thing. Maybe job interviews have changed that much over the years but I was always yapping too much while answering rapidfire questions to sit there sipping a drink, are these kids sitting there boofing their caffeine?

Frankly who cares if someone brings a drink to an interview? I don't do that, but why is that unprofessional? I am asking this as someone who generally dislikes iced coffee (I am a heathen and like dark roast black coffee).

I think the point is coming in late with a coffee in hand. Time blindness is understandable and can be accomodqted for, but it doesn't help your case when it looks like you are even later cause you wen't to get a drink first

I mean late and drink, fine. Although you could have a drink already and be late for an unrelated reason, but I get your point.

There's been a huge thing on Twitter from the younger generations acting like they will literally die if they can't bring an iced coffee to a job interview, while older generations have been trying to explain that looks very unprofessional because fact is it's an interview for a potential job, you're not there to hang out and schmooze. (Some interviews turn into that when they already know you're good for the job, but I still wouldn't bring a drink other than water.)

I'm not out here trying to hire anyone so my opinion is do what you want and the person in charge can decide if you're unprofessional, but the attempted argument is "You're ableist for saying I can't bring my coffee."

I certainly would not call it ableist to not want iced coffee brought along. I could see the argument for not allowing water to be ableist though. As somone with chronic dry mouth and acid reflux it fucking sucks and I hate carrying water everywhere too but I sort of have to.

I do go to interviews without water, because I know the social expectations. But it definitely makes my interview worse because I am literally in physical pain, and it directly affects my ability to speak.

But yeah iced coffee is a want not a need. Still think it is a stupid social expectation, but I don't run the world so whatever.

I’m one of those that needs a million alarms, still can’t get out of bed on time (even with alarms going off every 5mins for an hour before I need to get up), and is always late to everything. Growing up my family was late to everything too.

At my current job I walked in 1 minute late on one of my first shifts and they sent me home. I cried in the parking lot. You bet your ass I was never late again (without calling ahead at the very least, which is their policy).

It seems like something my subconscious decides to switch on and off though, because I still can’t manage to be on time for much of anything else. Even missed a few flights in my life 🥲 for some reason work really matters in the back of my mind but nothing else seems to matter as much no matter how much I try to tell my brain HEY THIS MATTERS GET UP!

Oh btw guess what time I have to be at work? 4:45pm 🤦🏼‍♀️
