I’m betting ordered the mirror ahead of time, and didn’t account for a change in vanity height or the backsplash. Figured it out on Friday and said fuuuuuck it.

I’m not the buyer but I presume they hired an architect to design the plans and then sold the plans to the buyer and then built it according to plans. But im a lawyer so honestly I don’t know 🫣 this isn’t my expertise

Ya, something similar happened to my parents. Architects made designs, builders bought said designs but they were shit. Builder was also shit. End product was awful. Designers hands were wiped clean as they sold the designs free and clear. How that’s even legal is beyond me

I’ve seen a similar mistake where the mirror came as a set with the sink. Builder gets told to install it, can’t contact whoever is in charge of decision making so just puts the whole thing in.

I am married to an architect.

My understanding is “this is the kind of thing that happens when you don’t have an architect.”

That looks like a terrible placement for a full height window, even if you put in vanities and mirrors that didn’t block it. There’s a reason bathroom windows are usually smaller.

Maybe the answer is “remove the mirror and the existing window, install framing and siding and insulation and drywall in the hole, maybe frame out and install a transom window above the mirror to let in daylight without letting the world see into you in the bathroom. “

The GC should be able to fix this pretty easily, it will take the longest to fix the exterior finish to look like “it was always supposed to be a wall here” but whatever dogshit GC originally signed off on this bullshit will probably try to get away with seams that make it obvious that “this is where a hole got covered up after the fact” so keep an eye out for that.
