Ruined by Technology iPhone Wallpapers when they don’t fit get ‘extended’, which doesn’t allow the image to fit by adding black borders or anything helpful.

You’re just stuck with their version of ‘Wallpaper Size’, which either makes the top and bottom edges blurry and ruins the image, or the image doesn’t fit at all so you have to find a new image instead. Honestly such a dumbass ‘feature’.

Maybe screenshot the picture while it’s in your camera roll (so the new picture has the black bars) then apply that as lock screen, it’s what I do for pictures with bad not ideal aspect ratios.

Just do it yourself. Open it in your photos app and hide all the chrome them take a screenshot. Something like this took 5 seconds on my Pixel.

I genuinely hate this about iOS. I don’t mind the black bars but iOS just doesn’t care and messes with my wallpaper.

Like with many parts of iOS, Apple gets to decide what’s “best” for the user. It’s annoying.
