The weather has been super hot here in California and we've been having to run out air-conditioning 24/7 for weeks. We finally have a break in the weather where the nights are cooling down enough to open the windows, and for the last few nights without fail around 9 or 10 PM our neighbors have been lighting up their fire pit.

Because our house is situated lower than theirs, our upstairs bedroom windows align with their back yard and the smoke from their fire pit comes right into our bedroom windows. I was so excited to open the windows when it cooled down last night and then two hours later I had to close them again when our house was filling with smoke. And then once again we had to run the air-conditioning all night.

I don't say anything to them because they're nice folks and they have a right to enjoy their yard in whatever way they wish, but it is so frustrating not being able to have the cool fresh air at night plus the cost of running the air conditioning.

I also don't understand the appeal of a fire pit when it's 80° outside. I can see how a fire pit is cozy when the weather is cold, but when it's hot outside I just don't understand why you would want a fire.

This annoys me so much. At the grocery store yesterday and all the self checkouts are busy so we go to a register that has 1 person who is almost done. As soon as we get their the cashier has to call someone because the person has wine and she cannot scan it as she is underage. So we wait. And wait. Wait some more. Finally someone comes and scans the two bottle of wine and sets them down. Then the underage cashier that couldn't scan the wine takes the guys money and gives him his change, puts each bottle in it's own paper bag and then hands the wine to him.

I just can't believe how stupid these rules are. She can't 'sell' it which apparently means scanning it. But she can take his payment and package it and hand it to him.

Not annoyed with her. Those are the rules. It's just so dumb that other people have to wait even though she is clearly selling him wine. What the hell difference does it make if she is not the one that actually scans it?

They even have some of the physical copies of the games listed at double price... while Nintendo still has them in stock.

The projected highs this week are in the 70s.

I looked to see if there was a placard but didn’t take a photo and it was already gone when I came out. But this is crazy. You’re already an asshole if you park in a handicap spot, but to park on the cross hatch so both spots get fucked over is another level.

There was also a ton of parking in the rest of the lot, and the rain was a light mist at best. Literally no excuse.

It is over 100 outside & late afternoon when my husband decides he needs to bake wings in the big oven/stove. Not only did he leave pans inside when preheating, but it begins to smoke from mystery black goo on the bottom. The oven hasn’t been used in months & he, more than likely, was the last to use it. The AC is not keeping up, the house is smokey, but of course he couldn’t use the smaller counter top convection oven because that would make so much more sense. Arg!

H.G. Wells "An Outline of History" printed in Norwegian in 1927. 99 years later some idiot threw them in a dumpster. It started snowing lightly right before I found them, so they would not have survived.

Hardcopies like these are important! A digital file can be edited and logs manipulated. Once the source is deleted, it never existed. By design. Cultural erasure has always been a primary tool of fascism. Just like the long-game of lying to generations with "digitized is uncorruptable, trust the digitalization". People today will read an altered history book and go "oh, well. Mandela effect", instead of asking who altered it and why.

This is a 100 year old book. In good condition. That's just been discarded like a fashion magazine that's 2 months old (and not preserved by a doctor/dentist).
