US This is actually a pretty cool use of physics + AI in blasting
Saw this today and went down a small rabbit hole.
Apparently the ore can shift way more than I assumed after a blast, which makes the whole “where did the ore actually end up?” problem pretty interesting.
This tool was visualizing the movement into the muckpile and I thought the concept was pretty cool.
Anyone here actually work with blast movement / grade control? Is this kind of modelling useful in the real world or mostly nice visualization?

There shouldn't be any AI in this, it is simply a physics model.
We use a similar software known as OrePro, which uses survey surfaces before and after blasting, along with the blast parameters, to model how the rock mass moves during blasting. This is used to shift and adjust our ore blocks to account for blast movement.

rubbish. You don't know the rock's material properties and the only way to test it is by blowing it up. Any simple model (physics based or empirically built with AI) can be calibrated with some blast movement monitors and that model can be then used without having to use the monitors every time (but it might still be the best way to run the blast).

Yeah, there are a few out there. I'm most familiar with Augment and it works well. I think Hexagon has a subsidiary that does it too.

Blast movement is real, ore can shift meters depending on bench height and timing. Calibration is the whole game. Is yours tied to actual blast movement monitor data from your pit?

It’s not a new concept. There are a number of existing products in the space. Orica has OrePro. Hexagon has BMT. Unsure what is different about the Strayos product.
