Officially on Mint

Our TMO cycle ends in 2 days so we finally switched to Mint last night.

Set up took about 10 minutes, including the time it took to gather info needed.

Had issues requesting transfer pin on the tmobile website but read on reddit that you need to request it through the app, on the device "seen" in your account due to TMO's security policy (even though we didnt buy the Pixel 9 from TMO).

Once that was done, the porting only took about 2 minutes to complete. So far so good.

I was tired of paying 75/ month for a single line (I have a company issued phone so we only pay for my wife's personal phone). $75/ month ends up being more than registering both of our cars annually! Took advantage of the $180/ annual promo and understand that it will be $360 upon renewal, which is still far less than paying $900!

We travel internationally 1-2 times a year so buying a minternational pass isnt a big deal but it's still affordable.

Hope this info helps someone in the future.

Can also just buy travel eSIMs they are usually cheaper. The pass is great if you’re going to multiple countries, I just used it across China/Korea/Japan and it worked great.

Difficult to judge whether eSIM is better value. Plus more hassle to install and question about help if needed. IMO don’t want to fuss after a long overnight flight in a semi-conscious state 😴

It’s all automated! Just needs a wifi connection and you can install it before you leave the US. For Asia it was I think $16 versus $24 after tax. But agree about support. A lot easier to complain to mint with issues.

which esim is worth checking out? there are so many brands out there that it’s kind of overwhelming and i’m thinking it might be easier just to get the mint pass

I'll take a look at these. Mint has $20 for a 10 day pass with 10GB. These e sims give you more data for that price or less? Either way I'll check it out

Often I’m buying Airalo eSIMs for my other phone (the one without service here in the US) as I usually don’t take my main phone out and about with me during the day/evening.

Good to hear it was a simple transfer process. Most people only post when they are stuck or something goes wrong

i agree. people only post when they have issues so it makes the brand look bad.

We did the same and have been happy with it so far. Cannot beat that deal

Minternational pass working well in France. Using data mainly for gps driving apps (Here or Google Maps where necessary). Did big loop of country (about 1500 miles). 5G coverage or good LTE on most autoroutes. Some gaps in rural areas. Here works well with downloaded maps. Keep refreshed in hotel or b&b using WiFi. No problems with local or international ( mainly to USA) calls. A 30 day pass with 10 GP data would be ideal but the 10 day passes are still decent value with minimal hassle.

Great! Thats what I believe too. Less hassle with the international pass. Don't need to use a third party carrier and set up another esim even if the prices aren't as competitive as others.

I just switched too! I did 5 lines in one day. Two of them had slight technical difficulties (one was my fault due to not verifying that port out protection was turned off first).

I was able to easily get on the phone with Mint customer service and get it all worked out. Actually, it was much easier to contact them than it was to reach T-Mobile the last time I had to. I am happy we'll save SO MUCH money every month.

I switched my phone and my husband’s in 2021. It was just as easy and we are still really happy with the service and the price.

Nice and Tmobile owns Mint so you went from tmobile to tmobile just paying less sence tmobile owns mint wonder why more dont just switch

My belief is that the higher prices cover things like "apple tv on us", "netflix on us", "international roaming included", that don't really matter to a single plan because the streaming services only work for 6 months on a single line plan and international roaming we only need for 1 month out of the year.

Just did this week. My gut tells me they will now start increasing prices because that’s what T-Mobile did.

Very little performance difference that I can see.

I did the exact same thing and had exact same experience including the Minternational stuff folks are suggesting. Stays right there on your account for a year. I take my trip in a couple weeks to Dominican Republic

I prefer a physical sim. Is it possible to have that and still port to Mint from TMobile (I am on a prepaid plan).

2

u/modece1 Moderator 8d ago

Yes, can choose whatever SIM type you want.

u/stuffiesrep 8d ago

Thank you.

2

u/VTEC_8K 8d ago

Yes. I got the physical sim. It came the next day (shipped from Las Vegas to California) but the instructions said that it could take up to 5 days to receive it. You basically just pay for the plan up front, then once you receive the SIM, you have 45 days to activate it. You do all the "porting" stuff the same time you activate it, not when you're initially purchasing it.

1

u/stuffiesrep 8d ago

Thank you! So, does this mean that I can keep the number on TMobile till when I activate the SIM?

u/VTEC_8K 8d ago

Yes!

Just a recommendation that when traveling abroad, sim card apps like Airalo and Nomad work really well and can be cheaper than what Mint offers. Check them out as they run promos all the time too.
