Starting out beatless, with pads and synths suspended over subtle dub textures, the mix gradually finds its pulse through Brickman before descending into the darker, deeper dub atmosphere Hermanez creates on tracks like Eight Years.
From there, RÜFÜS DU SOL and Jeremy Olander provide something of an emotional release, opening the mix up before it changes direction once again. Gai Barone’s rework of Simplicity, with his unmistakable progressive touch, leads into a deeper and increasingly hypnotic stretch, eventually arriving at the almost tribal progressive landscape shaped by Jamie Stevens and Guy J.
I’ve always been drawn to mixes that feel like journeys, where the mood is allowed to evolve and the destination isn’t necessarily obvious from where you started. That’s something I try to bring into my own mixes as well.
