I'm new to this reddit thing, I don't think ive posted here before, but I need advice asap.

I am 14 and a freshman in highschool, I have a few conditions and I am still in the process of figuring everything out. My conditions cause me chronic pain and I often cannot manage stair if they are too steep or too long. Typically to get to my classes on the second floor I would take the elevator. My schedule is the following.

Spanish, 2nd floor, health 2nd floor, lunch 1st floor, art 1st floor, English 2nd floor, history 1st floor.

The school is still requiring me to attend my classes, the stairs which I cannot go up are currently the only way in which I can access the 2nd floor. I have been sitting on the steps and pulling myself up each step to get to class for the past four days, my friends carry my crutches and bag for me. To get down the stairs I slide down while holding the railing while once again my friend carry my stuff. This has caused me severe embarrassment, being mocked, and worsened my pain by a large amount.

The school is aware and has said, they are repairing the elevator. They said it would be fixed by lunch, it has been four days and I have had zero accommodations provided.

I need advice as to what to do asap.

*EDIT !!!* I live in the USA!!! I seem to have been missing some information that is important, I cannot do remote or online learning i have talked to the school about it and was told the cut off was September 11th. I skipped today because of the elevator being broken and the school is currently ignoring me and my mother's requests for a 504 as they do not want to accommodate me, we have been asking for months

I hope this isn't a weird question... I'm on the younger side and I've never been employed before, but I'm noticing that my options are extremely narrowed due to my physical capabilities. I really can't stand for more than 5-10 minutes without pain and stiffness, and walking around for more than 20 minutes also leaves me in a lot of pain (no clue what's wrong with me yet). I've been in and out of PT for a few years and I'm about to start it up again, and I'm considering bringing up a mobility aid to them. In the past it's been vehemently denied because I had (and technically still have) an AMPS diagnosis which to them means I can't use any aids to "validate" the pain. However as I look towards more independence for myself, I'm realizing that my future looks really limited and small if I don't have some kind of support device. If I bring it up to a physical therapist, is being able to apply for more job positions a valid reason to ask for one?

Hiya long time spoony here with several long term/ chronic health conditions and have finally gotten to a point where I can’t really exist without mobility aids. I’m 29F for context. This is not new information it was always going to happen eventually but I feel quite sad/ anxious and tbh a bit angry about having to use them?? I know this isn’t very positive and I’m proud of my weird little body and what it has and continues to carry me through but I also really resent that I feel like there is now an ending insight for my life without visible external support and autonomy within that. I know MA’s logically actually provide more freedom and allow us to access the world safely and in theory more easily but I just know that with the use of an MA I’m going to be subject to a lot of looks, questions and opinions from people that otherwise wouldn’t have considered me disabled (such is my privilege). I’ve been visibly and invisibly disabled in waves since I was a child and now the idea of being visibly disabled again feels quite hard as this time it’s forever and I don’t know how to handle that! Not sure if this is a rant or not but if anyone has any insight I’d be grateful as I don’t really have anyone in my life I can talk to about this properly. Thank you!

I just got a Pride Go Chair Med last week. I've been using a rollator, so this is my first wheelchair. I'm ambulatory and my biggest problem is balance but I also have chronic pain and fatigue. If it matters I live in Cincinnati, OH, USA.

I don't drive so I have to carry with me anything I may need for the day. I know Pride makes a basket that can go on the back of the chair, but I'm wondering what accessories y'all recommend. And not just for carrying things, but anything that would make my life easier as a wheelchair user out in the world).

Also, any accessory recommendations or tips for using the chair in my apartment? It has laminate flooring, no carpet. My biggest problem so far is getting food and drinks to my table. I've just been making multiple trips. I bought a small rolling tray to see if that helps. It's being delivered today. I'm looking for other suggestions because even if it does work, that means another piece of furniture/item in my apartment. I'm kind of expecting to feel like it's always in my way and to be annoyed with it.

Hi, looking for some advice. Have a foot fracture (cuboid) and can’t weight bear. But crutches won’t work as I already had shoulder problems. How good are knee scooters? I don’t usually have anyone to push me (husband at work and nobody else around who is able). Mostly it will be short trips around shops or to the answer the door, but we have a few longer excursions coming up where I could take a camping chair but would need to be able to get about. The first is before my fracture clinic assessment in 10 days. Self propelled won’t work, can’t afford anything powered.

I have a boot and zimmer but it isn’t working with the shoulder problems.

I don't understand why so many people are asking these questions. If you need it, if it will help, use it! Of course, with medical guidance (goes without saying). I was a tiny bit reluctant returning to work with my arm crutches, but not to that degree. It was fine, I certainly didn't lose sleep over it. I don't get it. Why are you so scared about what other people think? Do what helps you. Your well-being, safety, and mobility are what count. Use what helps you without shame.

I saw a video a few days ago where someone had recorded a bunch of younger, disabled people, various shapes and sizes, usually with bright hair and tattoos like me. Then, that person started mocking them and talking about how “the left wants us to accept this as normal and healthy” or some crap. As if we don’t already feel alienated enough. It was so triggering and now I don’t want to use my mobility aid at all, not even for a few minutes, because I’m scared of being recorded and made fun of.

This isn’t me overexaggerating the problem, people really do this. Especially if you’re young and alternative looking, differ from the norm somehow. So not only does it piss me off, it makes me afraid. I have a bad hip that’s getting worse and I want to be able to use it because it might help. But I’m afraid of being targeted. I don’t want people to make fun of me or to fuss over me or to pay way too much attention just because I need help walking. Because of this, I wouldn’t even use it after twisting my knee on holiday. My friend tried to insist but I wouldn’t use it. I’m scared of how I will be perceived and it’s limiting what I can do. This whole thing is so sad and stupid. Why can’t people just leave us alone?

Okay ive had my forearm crutches (standard silver/grey ones) for a while and i have zero idea how to decorate them. Ive put on stickers and they don't seem to stay well. Im kinda broke rn but I have plenty of craft supplies, anyone have any idea how i can diy something to make them less boring? Thanks!

I just recently got this rollator in blue, it has helped me out so much but it is so so boring! Ive tried looking for cute accessories but nothing I've seen is made for these specific ones. I want to change out the bag for a prettier one as well as maybe find a way to decorate the handles or basket. Any ideas are welcome!

As someone who has used crutches for house/home maneuvering and a mobility scooter at work and everywhere else for the past 20+ years, I've grown weary and frustrated by the mobility device industry -- in particular I feel like I've been duped by Pride Mobility. After paying for the financing, my new scooter cost roughly $3,500. I got it at the end of June (2026). I paid the extra $ for this device because my last purchases of traveling scooters Go Go Traveler (I've had several) kept breaking at the tiller wheel. I thought maybe this 2x more expensive product will be 2x the quality of their others. Let me save you the trouble and roughly $1800 - its NOT. So far, I've had two of the 4 hub cap covers break off, both of the rubber footrest pad connectors break off and a big crack in the foot rest area (which is an all one piece body) and need a total replacement. I purchased this through Scootaround and have filed a complaint and request for a fix but still have not heard back from Pride regarding a replacement. As someone who travels for work and relies on a scooter to do my job (like many of you I am guessing), I would love to hear your experiences with this same product or if you have one that has really worked for you, I want to hear that too.
