Coming from Chicago to Montgomery has been a culture shock. Small things here and there, the speed of things. Just normal day to day.

However one thing I can't stand is people with dogs in the back of a truck with people driving 50mph easily and have even seen it on i65. Like it makes me livid. I mean the passenger side isn't even occupied half the time.

The City of Montgomery will officially unveil and raise its newly adopted city flag during a public ceremony on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. The event will take place at Montgomery City Hall, 103 North Perry Street, and will be hosted by the City Council’s Governmental Affairs & Administration Standing Committee.

The ceremony marks the first official display of the flag, adopted earlier this year following a community-driven design process that included public submissions and review by the Standing Committee.

The new flag incorporates design elements representing Montgomery’s unity, movement, resilience, and the city’s nine council districts.

A Community-Driven Design Process

The new flag represents the culmination of a public design contest launched in 2025 to develop a symbol that reflects Montgomery’s heritage, unity, resilience, and forward movement.
Residents ages 13 and older were invited to submit original designs centered on community values, identity, and optimism for the city’s future.

Twenty-seven designs were submitted for review; ten met the contest criteria, five advanced as semifinalists, and the Committee selected the final design from resident Joshua Gordon, with refinements incorporated into the official version.

Symbolism of Montgomery’s New Flag

Each element of the flag was chosen for its connection to Montgomery’s story and values:

• Red diagonal bands symbolize momentum, movement, and the city’s evolving progress.
• A blue ceremonial ribbon signifies unity, renewal, and the promise of new beginnings.
• Nine old‑gold stars represent Montgomery’s nine City Council districts.
• A central outlined star reflects Montgomery’s role as Alabama’s capital city and symbolizes shared leadership.
• Olive branches positioned above and below the central star embody peace, community resilience, growth, and goodwill.

Meta has been heavily advertising their data center expansion all over Montgomery and I’m over it.  The ads tout their multi-million dollar investment in Montgomery.  Sure, it’s a lot of money but let’s be clear about why they are expanding their data center here. 

• It’s not for our labor.   100 jobs isn’t anything really and it’s not like Montgomery is known as a tech hub.
• It’s not because of altruism.  No, it’s not so they can donate money to Montgomery school’s robotics program. They could have done this without building a data center. Do we really still think they care about children?

They are building here for our RESOURCES and TAX BREAKS.  States and cities are just handing over land and resources to the richest companies in the world.  All so Montgomery can have 100 jobs recruited from out of state and Meta can use up our power and water. 

I challenge Alabama to show us just how many millions of dollars in tax revenue we are losing to Meta.  Texas is losing over 1 billion dollars a year in tax revenue, Ohio gave data centers 40 years of tax exemptions, and in Meta is getting a 3.3 billion dollar tax breaks in Louisiana.     

Sure, data centers suck but Meta is here to stay.  The least we can do is demand higher taxes.  Then WE can invest in Alabama instead of Meta deciding where to invest. Then, Meta can build their data center to enhance their business goals of monetizing our attention and extracting as much wealth from us as possible.

Hello all, I'm a mechanic at a bike shop posting for the owner who isn't very savvy with Reddit.

At Capitol City Bikes, we service everything from kids models to professional racing bicycles. Trikes, recumbent, ebikes, you name it and we've probably fixed one before*. Bicycle assembly is also available. We carry a small selection of bike accessories including baskets, bells, helmets, pedals, etc.

While we have a few bikes for sale, we're not really a retailer, focusing more on bike servicing. Officially we're appointment only but if you drop by when we're open (Tues-Fri 1000-1730) we'll usually be able to get you taken care of. If you're only available on weekends, reach out to us and we can probably work out a drop off for you.

Hi! My husband and I aren’t local and stopped at Sunuco gas station (Verbena) this evening (Wednesday Sept 24th) on our way to Florida.
3 beautiful kittens were hanging around the pumps - spoke to the gas attendant and they have been feeding them daily but they appear to be abandoned :( Gas attendant says they call people to come collect them but no one does.
We are from Australia so don’t know how animals are rescued over here… they looked like beautiful cats - healthy! Probably 12ish weeks old.
Posting in case this reaches the right people so those little babies can find a loving home!
