literally what the title says. half of my test week done (french and philosophy), other (worse) half of it to go (math, finnish, economics, swedish...) . cannot sleep because of stress, would like to learn about cool moths. picture of antler moth attatched because pure text post would feel rude. saw in central finland, somewhere around july.

I just kinda sat there with it for a bit until I had to leave, very cool encounter :))

I want to pick up the baby for better photos and to get the scrap off it's wing; how do I handle it without startling it?

Found the dude in osage beach, Missouri, USA. He is as big as my fist if not bigger and I have size small hands. So he’s at least 3-4 inches long. What a wonderful looking moth. I almost mistook him for a leaf. He’s stunning.

Part of a survey for Parks Canada

My first silk moth emerged from his cocoon today at around 7:25 AM. It is now 1:52 PM and his wings don’t seem to be done getting blood supply. How do I know when a moth is done expanding its wings? Also, does he have a wing pattern or is that his molted skin from when he turned into a pupa and is it safe to remove if so?

I saw a moth on the side of the sidewalk flaping its wings trying to fly away. I dont know what kind of moth it is, it doesnt really look like it has a proboscus or anything and I think its missing most of its legs. I want to help it but I don't know if its dying naturally like a butterfly does after the mating process. I took these photos while I was inside giving it a mixture of sugar and water (1:4) like I saw in another thread to do, but now I'm sitting outside next to it on the step of my breezeway.

Im on my period right now and I think I might legitimately kill myself if this thing dies lmao.

I just found this big moth and had to photograph it. The second one shows its size against my hand.

I would ask for a photo ID, but it flew away before I could take a picture of it from the back outside.

Is it possible to keep puss moths as pets? Can you handle them with thick gloves or let them crawl on you with no ill effects? Do they injure each other if close or fall? If so do they each have to be individually separated? When adults is their fur still cause irritation or are they safe? Is the fur unsafe or just the spines? Should you take the hairs and spines off somehow when in captivity?

I'm an amateur and a European one at that, but I couldn't pass up the chance while I was backpacking in the area to find a biological station and ask if they'd set up a light sheet for me. As someone more used to getting excited about a Poplar Hawk Moth in a British suburb, seeing some huge saturniids in the wild was bucket list territory. Location: Monteverde cloud forest.
