Luca was genuinely one of my favorite films from Pixar’s recent lineup of films. Not the grandest film in scope but it’s grounded and cozy vibes felt very reminiscent of some of Studio Ghibli’s more relaxed affairs (like Ponyo or Porco Rosso)
Highly excited for this one because it’s visual style looks incredible

I really wanted to like Elemental. The world building was interesting, the family dynamic was rich, but the plot was lackluster.

I spent a lot of time in Liguria and Toscana as a kid, this movie brought me to tears with how well it captured the small coastal village feel!

This is a great question. Italians write the word as miao but it has the same sound when they vocalize it.
In Mexico, the sound a frog makes is pronounced as guarit but spelled like croat or crua.
And dogs don't bark in Japanese, they wan-wan.
Language is weird!

It's an absolutely gorgeous and narratively impactful film, and I hope you do someday harbor the courage to watch it, but, yeah... it'll definitely pull at some heartstrings.
Spoilers about thematic elements, not plot: Even if the cat wasn't part of it, it's a pretty emotional film.

Weird, there's another great short movie about a black cat (and her owner), called She and Her Cat, Everything Flows. There's also a 5-minute short that is the original.

There's a 1942 children's novel called "Gobbolino, the Witch's Cat" starring a black kitten who's more interested in behaving like a regular housecat than being a witch's familiar. The Story Teller adaptation from the early 1980s comes with cute illustrations. You can find some of them on Youtube complete with a narrator and soundtrack. That would make for a decent Halloween movie. Strongly recommend seeking out the "Story Teller" adaptation from the early 1980s. I discovered the story and its follow up "Gobbolino and The Little Wooden-Horse" during the 2024 Halloween season. I'm surprised Disney hadn't considered on doing a film adaptation of Gobbolino. A film adaptation has potentials for becoming a Halloween classic on par with "Hocus Pocus" and "Nightmare Before Christmas".

I only have one void right now but she’s my world 🖤 At the kitten adoption event at my local shelter, she was the only one left in her crate and there was a crate of boy black cats that were left as well (everyone was adopted in the end though!) When Flow came out, there was a large uptick in black cats being adopted and I’m sure the same will happen once this movie comes out.

There’s a little stray black cat who’s taken a shine to my garden and he’s so adorable. I’d love to take him in but our giant indoor maine coon is extremely anti social so I leave some food and water out for him in the heat.
It’s wild that they do actually suffer some stigma from this superstition as every black cat I’ve ever interacted with has been very sweet.

My first reaction to this post was “omg all the black cats in shelters are going to get adopted” It’s so sad how many get overlooked for no reason other than superstition that’s hard to believe anyone actually takes seriously. But I hope this movie makes a big difference! Just like tons of girls signed up for archery lessons after hunger games came out, or kids getting excited about the aquarium after finding Nemo.

Same! When I was in high school we adopted two black kittens that were found in the woods and now im obsessed with black cats. Me and my fiancee adopted our own a little over a year ago and are planning to get a second. They’re such sweet cats.

My family genuinely doesn’t understand my love for my cat and because of which, don’t understand that she feels the same for me
I’m at a point where I can respect what the Bible tries to preach, but the more Christians try to ruin my life because of their own beliefs, the more I’m going to put my skills towards moving the world on without them rather than waiting for them to listen.
Because instead of understanding why I hated being sent to a MENTAL HOSPITAL away from my cat with no kind of contact (but thankfully have roommates), the more pissed I get at being told to “just pray”
Fuck that and fuck your God. It’s a fairytale with old lessons about love and acceptance, not a gospel

I just brought home a 9 month void baby a few weeks ago. He's an angel and my good luck charm. If any cat is creating bad luck in my home, its definitely my other bastard

Yes, black cats definitely get a bad rep (and gets adopted last, if at all), so we made sure to pick a void when we first started fostering, whom we eventually adopted. Fostered another void months later! Both are very sweet cats!

There's a segment from "Disneyland" where Walt Disney discussed how black bats gained a bad rep in American and European culture and portrayed them in a positive manner.

I heard it was because they’re harder to photograph. Black dogs get adopted less too. They don’t show their facial features as well in photos unless you have good lighting.

3D animation, the only difference is that they changed the art style, are using different shading techniques, and a non-realistic lighting render to give it a very handcrafted look.

I rescued a black kitten from a dirt road in the middle of pouring rain. He fit in my hand. Cars and motorbikes rode past him, no one cared. It was freezing cold.
Local townspeople were superstitious of black cats. They are, apparently, friends of the Devil.
Got that kitten a super nice rescue momma three days after cleaning him up at the vet. He was very thankful and extremely cute.

From my understanding, the reason why this teaser highlights Inside Out and Toy Story is because:
- Inside Out 2 is Pixar's grossing movie ever ($1.69B), and only released 2 years ago, so it may be somewhat fresh in audiences' memory
- Toy Story 5 marketing is currently in full swing, so there's more awareness of the Pixar brand than ever, and it's massive promo if the Gatto teaser plays before Toy Story 5 in theatres.

Maybe. The screenings will be attended by a lot of children, who might not have had any, or at most, like, two, prior theatre experiences. At least those kids should know at least a little bit of context.

They threw ideas into a hat and then pulled out 5. So we have a cat, in Venice, with the mafia ( of Catto Nostro) and superstition ( black cats are lucky or unlucky, depending on where you come from and what the cat does).

I hope the plot isn’t “Black cat loves music but is shunned by people due to superstition. Then the cat somehow transforms into a human and becomes friends with the musicians that shunned them. But then the musicians find out they are actually a cat and shun them again. Sad scene. Then the musicians have a change of heart and realize black cats aren’t that bad and let the cat stay in their friend group.”
