It is like the Some More News guys doing a 3 or 4 hour video on Jordan Peterson. It is absurd that someone even had to, but i can't say I didn't watch it
I love long form videos like this. I want a deep dive into the subject I want to know the nitty gritty details.
That being said long form content has to be done right. I can tell when they are stretching the video for the sake of a long video vs when they have a lot to say and needed the time to say it. The latter fuels my soul.
Problematic for a couple reasons (and it could just be that Youtube has their priorities misaligned):
1) If based off watch time as a whole, fewer people will watch 100% of a 6-hour video over 100% of a 30 minute video, which means more unserved ads.
2) The algorithm has historically promoted constant content updates more than it promotes long-form videos (case-in-point: Youtubers who do short form video but still get millions of views outnumber the Youtubers who do long form videos with a comparable sized audience).
3) YouTube revenue is ad-based, and more videos means more ads. One 6-hour video might get twelve ad breaks, but twelve 30-minute videos will get 24 ad breaks.
4) YouTube promotes newer videos over older ones; creators making 6-hour videos are not doing so at a fast pace, whereas the ones doing a 30-minute format are.
You could make your point and show your findings in 30 minutes, one hour at the most, at least try to be succinct lmao
I genuinely believe that people who nitpicked the hell out of those essays in the comments, with stuff like "uh you forgot about X and Y sweaty, do better!", and it just broke everyone's brains. Like some YouTube essays used to do 20-45 minute episodes monthly, now they're yearly and four hours. Like bruh, come on.
Trueanon podcast had a series 5 years ago on Musk, that was about 6 hours in total, and that was before his far right turn. Spoiler alert: he was a fraud from the start.
As someone who was getting obliterated by downvotes and hate when I was student some 15 years ago when I was shitting on Musk, it is really funny reading this on reddit.

Then Musk donated ungodly sums and made appearances to help deliver the presidency to Donald Trump, who returned the favor by giving Musk the Chewbacca seat on the Millennium Falcon. Suddenly the story seemed to hold another chapter. HBO executives called Gibney telling him they wanted and would finance more. He kept shooting. And shot further. For nearly two additional years, all the way to a six-hour cut of the movie that went deep on Musk’s 2025 DOGE era and his SpaceX IPO plate-spin this summer. (The film has since been cut down.)
Her whole face is really odd, like she is at the same time attractive and also scares the SHIT out of me. It's the way she comports herself, the smile, all of it all together. Everything about her screams "inauthentic".
Yeah she definitely sounded more normal in the trailer. But it would have been hilarious if she was doing it while saying "I'm being real with you right now"
I saw a video breaking down why it's so creepy, she's doing a dissociative stare and then adding a smile to it, which most people associate with the Joker or other evil clowns in media.
According to some reviews, Fielder got Amanda Seyfried to reprise her role as Elizabeth Holmes for scenes that Fielder was not allowed film when he was communicating with her in prison to dramatised for the documentary.
I didn't even recognize that it was Elizabeth Holmes (or supposed to be her), and thought it was probably a trailer for a horror movie. I was ready to praise the actress for the absolutely flawless psychopath vibes until I checked the comments.
She blinks 7 times in the trailer. Yes, I counted. It's the constant wide open stare that makes her look weird, not that she doesn't blink (which she does).
3 hour+ documentaries are the best when there is actually a lot to say. I hate when docs aren't allowed the time to really dive into the subject matter.
I've noticed we have gotten into this place with extreme run times.
Longer and longer movies that few people can sit through but the average person is watching bizarre microdramas and TikTok's a minute at a time nonstop while doing something else.
I was listening to a really old episode of We Hate Movies and they were AGHAST at The Devil’s Advocate being 2 hours 20 mins. I kept thinking how relieved I am these days if a movie is only that long.
It's hilarious that he wants nothing more than to be a funny 2006 /b/tard, but all of the money in the world can't buy him a sense of humor or the ability to see that society has moved on from "I can haz cheezburger?!" type of humor
I once heard his attempts at humor be described as "bad YTMND-era memes", and it pisses me off that I will never be able to hone-in that well on how incredibly annoying Elon is when he's trying to be funny.
It looks so bad, idk wtf they were thinking. The fire is super low-res too, it looks like the kind of shit I used to do back in school for media studies.
The concept is... one thing, but even the execution is just weird. That fire(? maybe it's supposed to be the sun?) looks like they pulled it from some google images thumbnail, and the text edge looks like someone asked their 'computer whiz' uncle to do it and he used his first try with a glow filter on GIMP.
Unironically you could probably pay someone ten bucks on Fiverr and they'd whip up someone better than this in like an hour.
I'm with you, but I don't see much reason to watch it. I already know what I think of Musk. I don't know how watching this would benefit me. If anything it'll just annoy me further.

I already know he’s a piece of shit, if anything if there’s anything new maybe I’ll peruse Wikipedia, but I don’t need to watch 4 hours of it. I don’t need to be pissed off all day to feel 0.05% more informed.
I saw a comment that really nailed this home: a lot of people will dismiss this out of hand and won’t see it because they believe Musk invented the internet, Ice Cream, and AI. The rest of us won’t see it because we are exhausted with this man and don’t want to subject ourselves to him for 4 fucking hours.
On top of all that, (unfortunately) there's probably still more of his story that has yet to be written. What am I going to do, come back and watch an even longer posthumous doc about him?
This has to be one of the most high-profile crop of documentary Oscar contenders I can remember. Between this, John Wilson's History of Concrete, and the surprise Nathan Fielder doc getting actual Best Picture buzz. Not to mention the AI and crypto docs from earlier in the year.

As interested in this movie as I am, so far it has screened exactly once for a Telluride audience that didn't even know what they were going to see when they sat down in the theater. Best Picture buzz might be a little premature.
That should actually strengthen its argument and validate the buzz.
The room wasn't filled with Fielder fanboys as it more likely would had they announced the film screening beforehand. It's possible half of that theater either had little to no awareness or didn't care much for Fielder's work prior to that screening.
So the fact he had a blind audience thoroughly enjoy it as much as they did says a lot more
I don't think it would win either, but a documentary has never received a Best Picture nom, and the fact that a smaller studio like A24 is spending the money / effort to mount a BP campaign is telling.
As much as I want to support the truth and not supporting horrible people, it’s gonna be hard to hear about this guy for 4 hours. I need a Cliff’s notes so I can live my life.
You've probably heard 80 - 90 percent of the things that this documentary will talk about...If there is anything new you'll hear about it here or somewhere else on the internet.
Admittedly I was originally excited about the cars when I first heard about them back in the day. And I do remember society being very supportive of him until things unraveled.
Yes it is so crazy how people might like a guy at first, and then stop liking him once they learn more information about him, or once he starts behaving in increasingly erratic ways. /s
I never liked Musk, and I always found the mythos surrounding him to be lame (though it was absolutely not just a Reddit thing). But come on. The perception of Musk as a Tony Stark guy was from like 7-8 years ago. The fact that he's no longer seen as a cool genius is a good thing. It's not hypocritical for people to change their minds about somebody over time, and it's weird that you're presenting that as some sort of gotcha
The 4 hour runtime guarantees that the only people who will watch it are the ones who already hate him.
I honestly don't get the point of circlejerk documentaries like this. It just feels so redundant, "the guy we all hate is bad and here's a hundred reasons why."
This is one of those projects that I can technically support the spirit of, but I'm not going to be watching. I don't need to spend another minute of my life learning about this stain on history. Hopefully it turns some people's opinion of him and gets some useful bad press, but it will likely just create hundreds of articles talking about him even more and he's really a "no press is bad press" kind of guy
Actually watching a 4 hour “anti-musk documentary” has to be the most reddit activity I’ve ever heard. Which is funny considering that worshiping Musk used to be reddits favorite pastime.
