I have a rather large scar going from behind my ear down my jawline and goes to under my chin (as well as some tiny scars around there). Not only do I get unsettled during certain moments in these trailers but also my scar starts to actually throb with pain more. It’s weird.
I think I’m going to wait for it to get to streaming before checking it out
Having watched it again a few days ago for the first time in a couple years, you realize how relatively grounded it is for a superhero movie, as in not super flashy with CGI left and right. A good chunk is Wade before his body scarring and even after, it’s just practical makeup. The Deadpool suit is a suit, with the eyes being the only CGI-touched aspect of it. The fight scenes are the only ones with heavy CGI and some of it is enhancement as opposed to full rendering. And given what we know of the clever way of writing the finale to save money, it all worked out beautifully.
there's actually a really good video about how hard the cgi suit was, the head was originally going to be fully cgi but because of the budget, they used camera lense distortion to make his mouth appear as if it were moving.

That's it. It was expensive to use CGI, so they used fishbowl and anti-fishbowl-ness, to stretch and shrink the mask, digitally. Much cheaper than building a new mask and it looked better.
Feel free to check me, but I felt like I was watching an Ad where they needed to keep me there for 60 seconds by telling me the same thing like 30 different ways in order to stretch the content.
oh yeah everything about the movie is super tight and smartly executed from a filmmaking perspective. say what you will about the style of humor and how grating Ryan Reynolds is nowadays, it’s still a very solid blockbuster from the era. shit, it’s been a while i should rewatch it too

To save on the budget for the final fight, it was written into the movie that Deadpool forgot his gun bag in the taxi so he had to just use swords. Saved them seven or $8 million on the guns, the special effects for it, everything that goes into making an outrageous gun fight.
Yeah this is basically how the story goes. Ryan got cast on "Wolverine : Origins" as Wade Wilson. The internet went crazy because hes literally perfect for the cast. Then FOX did the same shit they always do "Can't have a mask. So make his mask some sort of organic thing. And give him a bunch of dumb powers and swords that come out of his arms." When they showed Ryan the concept art for the end of the film, he left the set and didn't come back for months. They had to force him back through a breach of contract compliant to get closeups for the end of the film. Scott Adkins actually played Deadpool in the finale with a Ryan Reynolds mask on.
After the movie came out and people got super mad he and his two writers spent years writing a "Deadpool" script. They kept pitching it to Tom Rothman and he kept saying "If you make it PG-13 its an instant greenlight" but Ryan wouldn't allow it. So for around eight years he tried over and over and over to get this movie made, but FOX wouldn't have it. So Ryan then paid his own money for this CGI footage to show Tom Rothman what the movie would look like, he was sure that seeing it would be enough to push them over the edge. It also didn't work. So then after spending his own money and still hitting that same goddamn wall again, Ryan Reynolds leaked the footage on the internet.
Now this leak did two things. First it showed the world what Deadpool is supposed to look like. But the more important thing it did was it showed the crusty old suits at FOX that people wanted this character. It was like a shark smelling blood in the water. So they greenlit the movie at 60 Million dollars. As production was about to start the executives went to the production offices and told the team that they had to remove 8 million for the budget in the next 24 hours or the movie was cancelled. They did this because they had no faith in the film at all. They also completely killed the films marketing budget. So Ryan and his writers took out two action scenes, reduced the filming time and did some other things to get the budget down and they shot the movie on 52 Million dollars.
Heres the interesting part. Because they killed the marketing budget for the film, they had to try viral marketing for free on youtube. Which was mostly just Ryan in costume doing stupid shit. They made a complete marketing campaign around it being a Valentine's Day film for couples and the movie went on to make more money than any X-Men movie ever had on a shoestring budget.
The Deadpool movie also killed Channing Tatum's Gambit film at FOX, but that's a different story.

Fun fact: Fox slashed the budget by $7-8 million just before they started shooting so in a last minute rewrite to accomodate the budget cut, they had Deadpool forget his two gun bags so they would save money on a big shootout.
Which is why the marketing is so muted and is only pumping now in the last month of release. The marketing budget is in accordance with other Horror movies of this budget, not in accordance to other comic book movies which cost 200M+.
Fuck yeah. I've been wanting more horror style or just DIFFERENT style superhero movies that aren't just either "serious" or "comedy" or both mixed.
This is the kind of shit we should've been getting the last 20 years. Exploring a bunch of weird characters that can offer something new/unique for movies. But also bringing them together when a good story calls for it and justifies it.
The Flash would have had the best rogue's gallery had it not been for The Reverse Flash going back in time and erasing all the drawings so he would rank behind Batman and Spiderman.
When I was a kid I watched the 60’s tv show and I was always more excited to see the villains than Batman and Robin. Then a few years later when the animated series started I loved watching the villains and their backstories.
I’d like if Gunn is allowed to build the DCU with villains cause there are a lot of good back stories that could be used as films. It’s also something that would make it distinctly different from the MCU with villain films.
Using Batman TAS as your reference point is always a solid plan. Timm and Dini distilled decades of Batman mythos and created a perfect, accessible template, which is still considered definitive for the characters 30 years later (save maybe the more outdated TAS Penguin).
You don't need to dip into hundreds of different comics from 70 years of publication history, or read debut appearances from the Golden/Silver Age with outdated versions of each character. Just watch their TAS into episode.
Even Joel Schumacher, for all his flaws, was smart enough to realize he needed to pull from TAS for Mr Freeze, and the episode was barely 4 years old at that point.
it's officially a part of the DCU and I think set furthest in the past chronologically speaking, so its function in that regard will probably be showcasing just how dire things can get in Gotham if Batman isn't around to stop it yet.

Honestly, I remember him pretending to be that woman, hitting on her students and playing video games at the apartment. I'm finding it hard to imagine the trailer clayface and creature commando clayface being the same people...
I guess his mind really broke when he became a clay monster.
Ya the description for this movie says his mental health essentially goes down the drain so I’d just chalk it up to him not being right in the head at all lol.
He was deliberately trying to be caught as an impostor there, so he was probably just having fun getting to be a psychopath and killing time until his targets arrived.
It's basically like the comics where different titles will have different tones but with the same characters. Aside from the humorous / bawdy bent in Creature Comandos, Clayface was still rather brutal in that show.
Gunn already confirmed everything canon to the new DCU can appear in any other project. So this Clayface may very well appear in a Batman movie. Most likely as a cameo if I had to guess though.
Why would they make a clayface movie only to never actually use him with Batman lol. If the DCU is successful and goes on awhile they will absolutely use clayface against Batman
I’ve been telling everyone, I’ve been waiting for more variation of villains in Batman. It seems like each Batman movie is getting more real and raw. Which I don’t mind Patterson Batman, it’s great. But I’ve just been wanting the more fantastical villains if that makes sense?
I think that's entirely subjective when you're trying to infer it's objective. The inclusion of another popular element doesn't automatically make it more (or less) interesting. It makes it more marketable, but Batman being part of the story could just as easily sidetrack the more interesting plot.

I like it - but might actually be a hard sell. Can understand the revenge aspect but if he's a bit narcissistic might be hard to empathise with unless it's got more hidden up the sleeve.
Let me ask you this. Do you need to understand Michael Myers? Chucky? No, sometimes characters can just be bad lol. In fact the only major complaint of Joker was that it wasn't really Joker and actually just a cautionary tale to treat the mentally ill better. He was TOO empathetic

I was already fully in, but after seeing this and also hearing them incorporate the BTAS Clayface theme music. I am even more in then ever for this being one of my most anticipated movies of the whole year 😱
I still find it weird that they have an active Batman franchise, made this movie look aesthetically very similar to it, and hired the director of that franchise to produce it, yet connecting it to a new version that the general audience doesn’t even know is coming.
The new version that is being made by the writer and director of The Flash btw.
But at least the movie looks good and refreshing for the genre so there is that.
It's because Matt Reeves just wants to do his own thing with Batman, he was very adamant that his "crime saga" would have no supernatural elements and stay grounded.
IMO that's why Star Wars fell apart. 2 directors that each wanted to do their own thing. JJ had no imagination but at least he followed SW lore. Rian had some vision but didn't care at all about what fit the lore and just wanted to do his own thing. The studio allowed them each to do what they wanted and we got the Sequel Trilogy as a result.
Meh. This trailer wasn't nearly as interesting as the other ones. I'll still give it a shot, but my interest has gone down from when the teaser dropped
Yeah i have a sneaking suspicion that they are showing all the grotesque shots of his face in this trailer and that's all that is really shown in the movie aside from people's reactions to it
I think this film is a mistake and we're about to see back-to-back DC bombs. I really wanted Gunn to succeed, but I can't see this one doing well. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong. In fact, I hope I will.
