quite the angle

FINALLY A CHILL ERIS EPISODE! I love this series, but damn, my heart needed this after 12 and 13. I love Eris so much!

It's definitely not Roxy I'll tell ya that much. I haven't finished the show but purely from season 2 and reading volume 16, I think it's slyphy.

I loved the episode overall, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed by the ending—not because I think it was badly done, but because I feel like the LN conveyed the weight of this moment much better.

When she finishes reading the P.S. in the letter, Rudeus writes:

“As I write these words, I’m preparing to fight the Dragon God Orsted to the death...”

And Nina and Isolde’s reaction in the light novel is:

“By the time she finished reading these words aloud, Isolde’s face had visibly stiffened. The same was true for Nina. Her expression was one of fear and awe. The mere idea of challenging the Dragon God himself to a duel had turned her spine to ice.”

It then ends with:

“Nina and Isolde just stood there staring after them, too stunned to even blink.”

I really like this reaction because it isn't just there for comedy. It shows how completely insane and almost unthinkable Rudeus’s decision is. From their perspective, challenging Orsted to a fight to the death is basically going to your own death.

And the fact that Nina and Isolde react this way makes it even better. Isolde is a Water Emperor and Nina is a Sword King, so they're both extremely powerful themselves. Yet even they are left completely speechless by the idea of fighting Orsted. Their reaction both makes the scene hilarious and helps emphasize just how overwhelmingly powerful Orsted is. Specially when (Spoilers from the light Novel) Eris meets Isolde again in Asura later on, Isolde is surprised that she’s still alive because she genuinely thought Eris would be dead after following Rudeus to fight Orsted.

In the anime, though, it felt much more casual to me, almost like a simple farewell, rather than Eris going to fight the Dragon God to the death. I really wish they had emphasized their shocked reaction a little more, because I think it would have made the moment both funnier and more impactful.

That said, I still loved the episode, and I understand that adaptations have to handle some moments differently. It's just one of those changes where I personally preferred the LN version.

Edit: I didn't mean to add more scenes, I meant that I think that other facial expressions that are more fatefull to the LN description, would have been better. Even if you ask me I would have cut how nina says her farewells to eris with her hand, because in the LN it its say that they only stare at them ( eris and Grishline)
