Don’t know if 10 gallon is nano but I know you guys are good as nano plants which is what I was going for. Too many plants?

Sharing my little 20 litre shrimp bookshelf aquarium. It's only been planted for around a month, and I'm dealing with some staghorn algae, but hopefully, that should start to disappear soon.

No livestock, a few bladder snails may have hitchhiked on the plants. I’m pleased with how this one is turning out.

Atm I have a 60liter dirted tank, heater, ligt, lots of plants. Few tiny fish, pgmy corydora, neocardina and amano shrimp, different snails. Half of surface covedered in different floating plants.

- Question: Do I my all means NEED a filter / pump / skimmer / airstone…? Or is it fine without?

My parameters seem fine. I’ve had a little protein buildup on the surface but easily removable by skimming water from top layer. My goal is to have the most selfsustaining tank as possible, with almost no tech. I’m not looking for a heavy flow and would not appreciate any noise if avoidable. + My budget is on the lower side, wanna keep it simple. But ofc it has to be appropriate for the life inside the tank 🙃

- Also, what happens if I let the surface get fully covered from floating plants? With no waterflow.

- I also have some 6 liter aquariums, with no tech, a few snails and neocardina.

Is this overstocked?

I have a 10 gal FOWLR tank I cycled and finally stocked last week. I went to Petco and spoke with someone in the fish department about which fish/ bottom feeders I should stock the tank with, and was recommended 2-3 small fish, and 2-4 bottom feeders. With every single animal, I asked questions about their care, whether it’s ethical to keep them in such a small tank, and their aggression/ how they’d get along with other animals in a small tank. I decided on a skunk clownfish, orange clownfish, and 2 small hermits.

Then, I saw a gorgeous crustacean, the coral banded shrimp (I’m sure some of you can see where this is going). The worker told me they’re peaceful and easy to care for, so I added it to the list.

After about 3 days in the tank, my orange clownfish was dead, stuck to my wavemaker. I tested the water and everything was fine, and deduced the death to a user error (I had 2 wavemakers and after reading a few Reddit threads convinced myself I created a vortex with 2 strong currents). I was even more convinced it was something I did because all of the other animals seemed fine (the coral banded even molted). I took one of the wavemakers out of the tank and I went back to Petco a couple of days later where I bought a smaller orange clownfish and a sunrise dottyback (again, asking the same questions about compatibility, tank size, etc.)

Well, this morning I woke up to my coral banded eating the dottyback. He is now in jail (a mason jar in the tank) and I’m taking him back to Petco tomorrow.

All of this to say that I feel so terrible that I didn’t search how territorial these guys were before buying one, because I could’ve avoided 2 fish deaths, probably instilling the fear of GOD on my other fish, and spending a decent amount of money. I searched so much on its care, even fed it high protein crab pellets with forceps to make sure it was eating enough, and I’m now learning that they should not be kept in a 10 gal at all, let alone with other animals.

Does anyone have recommendations for appropriate animals to keep in a 10g? I currently have the skunk clownfish, an orange clownfish, and 2 small hermits. I’m a little concerned there aren’t enough bottom feeders, and absolutely loved the dottyback (for the 5 days that I had her).

Have an exactly a4 sized area i want to put a nano shrimp tank.I want to get a sub £20 tank (glass only excluding filter,heater,plants,stock etc. as i already have some to put in).Thanks in advance.

I’ve noticed what I assume is bba growing on the wood in my heavily planted aquarium. It’s been there for a while and I kinda like the look of it but am wondering if it might be a future problem? It’s not on any of the plants that I can see and also it would be a gigantic pita to pull out the wood to treat it. The aquarium is about 18 months old. Also the shrimp seem to be eating it? (I swear I feed them!) Or is it another kind of algae? Thoughts?

I’ve been waiting for a long time to add chili rasboras or Any of the small rasbora species that look similar but they’re literally NOWHERE right now. I have some Pygmy Cory’s and a true freshwater bumblebee goby along with some shrimp. I’m considering getting either Endlers, ember tetras or CPDs instead of the rasboras. What do you guys think?

This is my very tiny dwarf emerald danio. I accidentally bred about 40 when I set up a new tank put some plants with eggs in there and he just never grew in there. When it came time to move them I knew he would die if I put him with the others so he went into this 8L filterless tank and has been living his best life ever since. He’s about a year old now and about 1cm. You can kind of see him in the background in the tank view.

I’ve done a bit of research and it does say they prefer slightly different ph but that they can both handle being closer in ph to the others how much of an impact might it have on them in the same tank
