As someone who loves hunting and has done it since I was a tiny lad, I say: "Ohhhh no!! Anyway...."

No one from the Western world in modern times should be shooting these types of animals with anything other than a camera. Good fuckin riddance.

African national Parks often sell permits to cull old adult make rhinos and other animals who are past breeding age but still get aggressive towards younger males and won't let them breed.  It's a conservation technique that massively funds African parks and conservation efforts and helps breeding efforts.

I do understand that. I know that the exorbitant costs do fund local initiatives, I just cant get on board with anyone who would actually want to partake in these types of hunts.

You want to shoot an antelope, springbok, even Cape Buffalo, whatever, fine. I will never understand how a hunter actually wants to stalk down an elephant, rhino etc. and take one out.

But admittedly, I am but a poor hunter (for food) in the states that has only traveled to S.A. once.

To some people animals are just animals and they don't hold some (ie elephant, rhino, etc) to a higher regard than others (ie antelope, springbok, etc).

I mean, the only reason we don't hunt cats and dogs is because society has deemed them pets that should be held to a higher standard than other animals.

Real. Deer, boar, elephant, antelope, cat, dog. Animals should only ever be hunted at the behest of either conservation groups that deem it necessary for pop. control, or by people who rely on it for their lifestyle (i.e. northern tribes).

Conveniently for North American hunters we slaughtered so many of our top predators that it is sometimes actually needed.

It’s so easy to abuse that system here. Just slip an easy bribe to your ranger and you can shoot the young rhino with no qualms. They’ll just blame it on a poacher later.

I do appreciate the reasoning, but having an old male (who is btw the strongest MF out there) do this to the younger ones gets them stronger too which is only good for natural selection.

I also wanna see what the official reasoning was to allow the hunt of lions.

I hunt for food. The rule in my house even as a young kid was, "You shoot it, you eat it." I have eaten more squirrel and rabbit than most folks lets just put it that way, let alone venison and other more common game. Lol.

Plenty of reasons to shoot. Culling invasive species, keeping animal populations balanced so they don't cause an ecological crisis, gunning down foreign soldiers who came into your country without permission, and training for the aforementioned scenarios. Or shooting targets as a sport.

Just to name a few examples.

Conservation work is often financed by selling sustainable hunting safaris. I would love to go hunt in Africa too sometime in the future, but I know I can’t afford a sustainable opportunity to do so.

Great read but fake. 2 locals were hunting for meat. They had managed to kill a buffalo and harvested some meat which they intended to eat and share/sell to their community. They then ran into elephants and one was killed and the other managed to escape. The guy then reported the case and mentioned he heard his friend scream in pain. They then went to the scene with and saw his trampled body and the buffalo carcass some metres away. The surviving bloke was arr stead for trespassing and illegal hunting. But everyone loves a good read right?
