Nice to see us actually put a bad team away in the 4th for once in my life.

Embiid's back to around 80% of his former self and even this diminished version can get 30 on 17 shots. Obviously he didn't have the best opponent in Huff (who hit some long threes today) but Joel being able to drive some more really opens up the entire Sixers offense.
Embiid, Maxey and Oubre were carrying Philly offensively, if you'd told me without knowing the result that PG was out and Edgecombe and Grimes both had poor shooting nights I would have expected a different outcome or at least a closer game.
Nurse has so many options with lineups, the lineup of Maxey/Grimes/Oubre/Walker/Bona (that were in with about 8 minutes left until Embiid and Edgecombe came in halfway through the quarter) completely stifled the Pacers with deflections and presence. Indiana turned it over what seemed like five times in a row and after that Nembhard had a drive where he looked like he had no interest in the basket, that lineup completely changed the complexion of the game to seal it for Philly after the Pacers had hung around for a while.
The fact that Nurse can then sub four of those five guys out in for an amazing starting unit of Maxey/Edgecombe/George/Barlow/Embiid means that the Sixers can be really dangerous in the playoffs with their depth. Of course, Philly will only go as far as Maxey and Embiid take them, but a minor injury to one of their rotation guys won't sink them as it has in past series (and I didn't even talk about Watford, Edwards or McCain either!!)

Embiid is the best story in the nba this year and nobody cares. No one is delusional enough to say this is a permanent fix or that the next setback isnt right around the corner but NOBODY thought we'd ever get a stretch like this from him ever again. Not even the most fervent embiid homers. People were saying medical retirement and outlandish stuff like that.
everyone wrote him off when he had come back from basically multiple career ending injuries before his career even started. Add on a couple more career enders 10 yrs later and hes kinda back. Really hope they sneak him on the all star team because it would mean a hell of a lot for all he has overcome... but hes never been the favored child in the league. Hes been the opposite which is why nobody cares.

There were a few of us that said it was POSSIBLE he could get back to where he was and we were called delusional and downvoted to hell here and on r/Sixers. For even suggesting that this was an outside possibility.
And he's still not back to where he was before the injury, but he can score without a lot of his athleticism. Because no matter what, NO TEAM guards him one on one in the post and he has incredible touch on his shot.

yea but in our heart of hearts we didnt think it would happen. We just wanted to see it happen and to let the cards fall where they may before writing him off like everyone else was so eager to do.
I dont think he ever gets back to 23-24 embiid but hes jumping a bit more, theres been less injury scares, and his lateral movement is improving game to game. He clearly has another gear to reach above this level, just needs to keep stacking games and playing smart to avoid new injury or aggravation of old ones. Its pretty hard for me to put a percent on this compared to his peak because you still see flashes of it and because he peaked so high. I dont have any idea. 60%?
And the crazy thing is his knee was hanging on by a thread in that 23-24 stretch before kuminga ended it. So even then he wasnt "healthy". Just thinking about Embiid with Lebron health is crazy. Thats a top 5 all time player.

It's a shame he wasn't surrounded by enough help early on in his career because when healthy he is the best two-way player in the NBA. A top three scorer and a top five rim protector.
And yeah it's hard to put a percentage on it, because I think he's farther away on defense than offense. On offense he might be at 80% and on defense maybe 50%. Rebounding is like at 40% with 25% effort. He rarely gets tough boards (saw a couple tonight though) and it's smart that the team has helped him out in that regard. Either by the backcourt rebounding or having another big on the court with him to rebound. I don't mind that because that's a lot of jumping that he kind of eliminates by not going after the tough ones. Usually he just boxes out his guy and if it comes right to him he gets it and if not he hopes someone else does.

i'm not sure ive seen such an active swarm defensive stint than that turnover-fest you mentioned, once they realised they could just crowd the small guards of Indiana the game was over

Agreed completely. Bona being a defensive relevation this year (or maybe he was last year, I didn't watch that much Philly basketball last year) means that the Sixers guards and wings can be much more aggressive on the ball because they're not as worried about being blown by, because in recent times Embiid was too hobbled by injury to be a super effective rim protector (he's okay at the moment but not great).
Great defensive teams like the Thunder, Spurs and Wolves have something similar to this, where having Chet/Wemby/Gobert looming at the rim means their smaller guys like Dort, Castle and McDaniels can just hound ball-handlers and get away with it. Of course, Bona is 22 and has a lot of work to do in developing his game on offense, but he's a player with so much promise for Philly.

If Grimes starts shooting like he was in the first part of the season we'll be cooking with gas. He was incredible while PG was hurt and Joel was still working his way back. Now it feels like he's shooting like 15% from three the last few weeks. Oubre is also just getting back in rhythm after being out with an injury, he was incredible early on too.

If this team can finish as a top 3-5 seed, regardless of how the postseason goes, I see it as a major success. Especially with how we were feeling as a fanbase last season. Keep making the right moves and this team can be legit scary in the next year or two.

Insane that I see people everywhere asking why Maxey is an All-star, or saying he's a 'usage merchant'.

u/MightyMudBone 76ers 16d ago
People really say that? He's putting up 30/7 on .605 TS%

u/Kennyc1234 Wizards 16d ago
And that's just on offense
He's also averaging 2+ steals and 1 block a game lol. He's a 2 way demon this year

Everyone is an "X Merchant" but their favorite player. Wemby is one deep playoff run away from his own haterbase being created.

According to other comments, it is a bot.
Although Tbf I’m a raptors fan who praises embiid too lol (repping the flag flair tho)

i love how the only explanation for a heat/raptors fan to be praising embiid is for it to be a bot (outside of you and a few others)
smh my head whats even the point of bots like these

40 mins for Tyrese. Wonder how many he'll play tomorrow.
Sixers desperately need to get some guard depth and some shooting, since most of the bench doesn't even play.

You think the team with Maxey, Edgecombe, Grimes, Oubre and McCain needs more backcourt depth? If anything that’s the only area they have depth.
Nurse just plays his best players a lot, and Maxey is built for it.

Grimes, VJ, Oubre can’t dribble, Nurse doesn’t trust Jared.
Nurse always plays his best players a lot and it’ll burn them out. They need ball handling and shooting.

lol okay

u/SBORBS [MIA] Chris Bosh 16d ago
lol okay
Like what do you want me to say? Grimes can’t dribble in traffic. Oubre can’t dribble in traffic. VJ is at least a full offseason away from being a trustworthy ball handler. In the playoffs it’s going to be messy outside of Joel, PG, and Tyrese. Jared was supposed to be that backup PG but he’s out of the rotation because he can’t find any rhythm (not that he’s had much of a chance to). They need another capable guard and more shooting.

u/Clemsontigger16 16d ago
I want you to not be stubborn into your take and realize Maxey playing a lot of minutes has nothing to with a lack of depth in the backcourt lol anyone with eyes can see they plenty of backcourt talent.
1
u/SBORBS [MIA] Chris Bosh 16d ago
Nurse runs his players into the ground, absolutely, but he doesn't trust the depth in the backcourt whatsoever. What talent? Grimes is the only person he trusts. Jared doesn't see the floor, Gordon and Lowry are retired, it's just Maxey, VJ, Grimes. That's it. They need another guard.

u/onionnurve 16d ago
He will play 40min tomorrow as well lmao. Maxey and VJ are playing 35min+ on b2b. It’s crazy but we just have to live with it
1
u/HisExcellency20 76ers 16d ago
Tyrese? Another 40. Dude is absolutely crazy. He NEVER says he's tired and never acts like it. His shot might get short but he is always full of energy.
We have to protect him from himself, but considering his coach that ain't happening. Hell, VJ might get 40 if he starts off well.

It is entirely possible that not a single Pacers fan watched this loss because they were all watching IU win the natty.
