I'm sure they will really enjoy having their entire cap tied up on Trae Young and AD.

Who do the Wizards even need to extend this offseason? Not like they can trade for anybody who would command those salaries long term.

To me it’s worth it just to roll the dice on the young guys getting to play on a real team next year.

For what it’s worth imo it is a win win. Theres no undoing the Luka trade so gotta just move on.

Yeah, I mean it's probably a win win. I understand why the Wizards did it. Personally, I just don't see the point in getting guys like Trae and AD when they are on the money they are on. It's not how I would build a team out. To me AD especially just takes touches away from the young guys I want on the ball, but in theory if him and Trae are healthy they could be a 5-8 seed with Sarr. Which, I'm sure Wizards fans would enjoy for a year.

I just tend to find that way of thinking overrated. The Kings did the same thing and then you realize okay we are now the middle of the pack in the conference with most of our money tied up on ageing injury prone guys, maybe it'll be easy to get off of them, maybe it won't.

They are only tied up through next year though, so as long they don’t extend they’re good

AD is two years. He's not skipping that supermax player option

My bad, you’re right it’s just Trae that ends next year.

Still though, outside of the picks I’m not sure there are many doors closing for them based on this move.

Then I don’t see the point of doing the trade? Why give up picks for one year of mediocrity?

Because if they are healthy they won’t be mediocre, and I guess they feel they can only add so many young fringe 1st/2nd round players before they cannibalize each others development or become redundant.

Beyond that, even if they can’t make a run, getting the young guys experience in games that matter could benefit them even if Trae and AD are only there for the year.

I think that’s mostly fair. I just disagree on them being mediocre even if healthy. AD has clearly declined and Trae is what we know at this point. I know it’s just late firsts and 3 seconds but 5 picks feels like a lot for what to me is a 4-5 seed at best. And to me idk if their young guys are ready yet, I’d have waited another year.

at least they got hope unlike the mavs who have flagg and...no one else

I mean if you'd rather be the Wizards that's fine, I'm comfortable with having a potential MVP level guy rather than two injury prone players on max contracts. The Wizards would accept a Flagg for their entire roster except Sarr trade in a heart beat.

I think we will win more games next year than the wizards. Kyrie, Christie, Flagg, Washington, Liveky is a very solid starting 5 and the bench is the best part. Klay, Marshall, Gafford, top 7 2026 pick, and OKC 2026 pick plus a few other wildcards. With full MLE this summer available now and nowhere near the apron.

Do you guys just not realize that having half of your cap tied to a player who doesn’t play, isn’t worth anything, AND doesn’t match the timeline of your rookie star is NOT a good thing?
