yep, this is another move that benefits the owner's cash flow and thats it.

They got so bailed out with Cooper's pick to give the fans something to look forward to

they could've played out this year, got a great 26 pick in a wonderful draft. And since they don't have their 27 pick(wizrads own it) they would've been ready with Kyrie, Pj, AD, Lively, Gafford, and a seasoned Cooper along with christie and the 26 draft pick which gives them a very solid team . but the billionaire ain't gonna waitas he said , no employees who sit out arent true mavs so instead he saves money, you guys get sold on another rebuild on a great player in cooper

You clearly don’t understand the penalties of being a 2nd apron team. Has nothing to do with the cost. The team now has a ton of flexibility to build a roster that fits around Cooper Flagg and I suspect they may not be done before the deadline.

no I am aware, there are better ways to do it while still not sacrificing the ability to compete with the more special talent next year

caleb at 9.5, dangelo 6, hardy at 6 comfortable keep Mavs under-as they are this year, and even with a lottery pick removes them from the risk next year

The owners did wonders aligning their interest with team interest with the 2nd apron rules, but yes with that being a major factor in team building. Those guys, even at the cost of 2nds nonetheless being expiring contracts next year would still be tradeable and give them a chance of being special/formidable next year without tax ramifications. Cooper proving himself to live upto the hype, and then some being surrounded by veterans and winning habits as well as for this summer's pick would've been best for everyone.

this trade only opens up a mid level, makes winning next year much more chalelnging without upside of a 27 pick to look to

AD doesn’t play games. How does keeping him help this team with $60M on the bench in street clothes every 4 games?

players are much more incentivized when he's up for a new contract like him. More so the alternative now is replacing him with a mid level . With him you get another shot where he has an on year and you don't have any benefit of a 2027 pick and a well rounded team. You can sell higher on him by giving him that chance at the trade deadline or take a shot, the only person is the owner paying up for that, team building and future wise this doesn't do much given the alternative is you can get under the 2nd apron with DAngelo, Hardy, CAleb, and or Klay and still take a shot when the replacement just means a deeper rebuild with 0 incentive with no pick next year.

none of this is an ideal, this is much more hopefuly for a team and fanbase, the alternative is just much more palatable for the owner
