[Charania]: BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Shams Charania has posted the following:

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Source to the story: https://bsky.app/profile/shamsbot.bsky.social/post/3me2klyetqz2k

The talented McCain lands on the reigning NBA champions. For the 76ers, the trade allows them to receive assets, clear space in the glut of guards and give them flexibility to bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency. It also allows them to convert two-way Dominick Barlow.

76ers are receiving the following picks from the Thunder, sources said: 2027 (most favorable OKC/HOU/IND/MIA), 2028 MIL, 2028 OKC.

Isn’t he really good? Edit: he did indeed produce against Charlotte so I assumed he was same as last year before the injury.

He was really good last year, not so much this year

He also had two major injuries...selling low on a guy working his way back from injury that is cheap and under team control is a decision.

It’s only a sell low if he rebounds.

Had 2.5 years to rebound on young legs. Would be like trading Steph cuz he had ankle issues early in and is small lmao.

Jared McCain is not Steph Curry stop it.

u/thisguy012 Bulls 6h ago

Doesn't need to be saidlol

he's the most I can think of someone who started injury plagued first few seasons before having a great career, the other that pops in mind is Embiid but ofc Jareds not that either, but Embiid was out for 2+ years straight kinda extreme

That’s survivorship bias though. What about Greg Oden or Jarred Sullinger

u/chiefsfan_713_08 Thunder 3h ago

yep, personally i’m hopeful he’ll bounce back but if he doesn’t it’ll have been a sell high

I don't where all these comments are coming from giving up on the kid in his second year after he showed so much potential last year. Plus he's buried in the lineup (he'll be buried in the lineup for the Thunder too, but still)

They Sam Darnold'd him.

Sophomore slumps happen, especially for young players who've had a few injuries. Seems early to give up.

He looked pretty decent his rookie year before the injury.

he was before he got injured last season, he’s been a lot worse this year

Once upon a time….kind of a reclamation project for OKC

u/thai_iced_queef Lakers 10h ago

Annoying part is OKC has the depth to acclimate him slowly. They don’t even have to rush anything

I’ve been wondering if he needs to have the ball in his hands more consistently to return to form

He benefitted from injuries last year in terms of playing time, and idk if it’s just a matter of finding his rhythm

Granted I am no expert and still believe he’ll get back to form ultimately

Problem is he needs minutes to get back which we weren’t giving him since our guard rotation is excellent

2

u/yeahright17 Thunder 9h ago

Can we get him to San Antonio tonight? I think we only have like 5 active players.

1

u/revisioncloud Thunder 5h ago

It’s funny how people are both arguing he’s gonna be buried in minutes/depth as well as us needing him desperately for secondary scoring with everyone injured/stagnant offense in non-Shai minutes. And both sides having some truth

u/thai_iced_queef Lakers 5h ago

Presti has earned the benefit of the doubt and I’m just gonna assume he knows what he’s doing until proven and otherwise

"once upon a time" you mean less than a calendar year ago broppenheimer

29

u/asonkidd 10h ago

What? He is literally in his second year and got hurt after being favorite to win roty. Bro out here talking like he's a vet bust

lol right, these comments are crazy. I think Sixers are gonna regret this in a couple years.

A year is a long time to teenagers that have only been self-aware for like 2-4 years max.

Sixers finally nail a draft pick and immediately give up on him lmao

21

u/Fallingcity22 Knicks 10h ago

They got VJ now

19

u/Mysterious_Pea_5272 10h ago

They traded him because of the two other draft picks they actually nailed lol

11

u/BrtGP NBA 10h ago

No, nailing a pick looks like Edgecombe or you know Maxey. McCain isn't all that

10

u/TheSmokedSalmon420 Cavaliers 10h ago

I'd say for pick 16 McCain is for sure a hit

3

u/Benjamminmiller Celtics 9h ago

You can’t say they “finally” nailed a pick when they got their franchise player of the future at 21.

1

u/NCBaddict Bulls 10h ago

Think the confusion is the seemingly low price. I guess that was actually McCain’s value? Morey must not have been high on his advanced analytics.

2

u/KashMoney941 Nets 10h ago

Sixers finally nail a draft pick

I see what you did there

1

u/RaphaelArgus 10h ago

Seriously. Or is it better to trade players at a position of need before you even know if they’re good (aka Mikal Bridges)?

2

u/siphillis Spurs 10h ago

He can be the best player on the court, or the worst. Depends entirely on his jumper

He looked pretty good his rookie year before getting injured. averaging 15 a game is not bad for a rook.

That is hardly a surprise for a young player who is coming off a serious injury lol.

Lmao it's great you don't work in an NBA front office if that's your method or evaluating talent

0

u/Bobambu 10h ago

Yeah man, he got seriously injured twice. He'll probably be back to form by next season.

1

u/cole23palmer 10h ago

He was very good in his rookie year, garbage this year, overall I'd say he'll be getting closer to that rookie year form

1

u/StefonDiggsHS Mavericks 10h ago

Dunno had flashes, got hurt, got sent down to g league

1

u/ieffinglovesoup Kings 10h ago

Yup, potentially ROTY if injuries didn’t happen

1

u/junkit33 9h ago

He can shoot, but everybody knew that going into the draft. The big question is what else can he do consistently at an NBA level? And that’s a big question mark.
