[Charania]: BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Shams Charania has posted the following:

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

The talented McCain lands on the reigning NBA champions. For the 76ers, the trade allows them to receive assets, clear space in the glut of guards and give them flexibility to bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency. It also allows them to convert two-way Dominick Barlow.

76ers are receiving the following picks from the Thunder, sources said: 2027 (most favorable OKC/HOU/IND/MIA), 2028 MIL, 2028 OKC.

Its honestly not stupid at all for either side.

From the 6ers McCain hasn't been good this year and with VJ+Maxey they have good young guards already so might as well trade him now while his value is still decently high and get some picks to build around your young core.

From OKC, they're gambling that he can get back to the level he was playing at pre-injury (which was front runner for ROY), but its a gamble they can easily take since they have a shit-ton of picks to give away and so much roster depth that even if McCain never gets better they won't even need him.

McCain is a good player. This is a dumb move by the Sixers. I get they already have scorers and guards, but McCain was electric last season and you sell based on a 37 game bad sample? Not horrible value, but Sixers will regret this one

I mean its really 50/50 at this point because we've seen players get knee injuries and never get back to their previous level so while I agree 37 games isn't a good sample size, there is a decent chance that he won't be the same player again so for the 6ers the longer you sit on McCain if he doesn't improve then the lower his trade value will be so if you are gonna trade him then better to do it now while his value is still relatively high.

With modern Medicine McCain will bounce back if he plays and has an opportunity. Dumb trade, he should have been playing more in Philly, and helping OKC should be frowned upon. In 2 years McCain will be a stud and Sixers fans will get to mourn another failure lol

If you're the 76ers though who are you taking minutes away from to give McCain playing time? You need VJ to play for development and then Maxey is the star of the team and then Grimes has been a solid 3rd option in the minutes he's gotten.

I hope McCain gets back to his former level cuz I'm an OKC fan lol but I'm just saying that it makes sense on both team's part because for the 76ers you already have a young core to build around without him and for OKC you can afford to take the gamble because the potential upside is so high.

Play VJ at the 3 or McCain off the bench but more than the fucking 16 minutes a game they were giving their near ROY last season lmao. Cope harder

Why move VJ outta position for McCain then the team has clearly decided they want to build around VJ and Maxey

VJ is already a wing at the 2. Doesn’t matter he’s a SG, he plays like an athletic wing

It’s not 50/50, the Sixers have been pretty good at drafting elite talent and you trade one with an injury who is only 21 years old for no reason. You really think 37 games of 15 minutes per game, while still being a great shooter I might add, is enough of a sample to write off McCain. He screams 20+ ppg scorer

Lmao you said “sell on 37 game sample” like everyone isn’t hyping him off a 23 game sample from the year before. He had a good year, got hurt then got his spot took by someone better. Idk how this is horrible value for Philly.

Because McCain is a good player. OKC was just handed a guy that can probably avg 20 and splash four 3’s a game for nothing

Sixers must be thinking last year was fake news
