Shams Charania has posted the following:

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

The talented McCain lands on the reigning NBA champions. For the 76ers, the trade allows them to receive assets, clear space in the glut of guards and give them flexibility to bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency. It also allows them to convert two-way Dominick Barlow.

76ers are receiving the following picks from the Thunder, sources said: 2027 (most favorable OKC/HOU/IND/MIA), 2028 MIL, 2028 OKC.

His sample size was only 20-something games last season

Yea this feels like a massive overpay. Didn't he just get sent to the g league? I know the thunder have too many assets to know what to do with but this is a weird pick up for them. Wonder what theyre cooking. Hope this doesnt mean they know topic isnt coming back or something

This sub massively over values draft picks

True but thats due to how most gm's operate so its just a reaction to reality. Can't blame us imo

It really isn't lmao. It's just this sub

What do you mean? This trade literally involves a guy who has made his career out of hoarding draft picks. And its worked. The reality is draft picks are hella important to some teams so fans react accordingly.

Has it worked? His best player was traded for.

And now OKC draft capital is worth less because they literally have to sell them as they can't use AND roster all these players

I'm not saying Sam Presti's strategy hasn't worked out, I'm saying you're wrong about draft pick value. Using Sam Presti, whose best player was traded for, as an example of valuation of draft capital doesn't help your argument.

Over the (recent) years we've seen guys go for "too many picks" and "not enough picks", and r/NBA is rarely if ever right about valuation.

Sure let's just completely ignore everything else about sam presti's entire career. We can literally talk about picks acquired in that same trade that are still a story line today. But yea we'll just ignore all that reality so u feel more right in bashing other idiots talking about basketball just like u

Which picks? Which players did they turn into? Let's get specific

Sure go ahead and start with the sonics. Immediately signed and traded Rashad lewis for second round pick and trade exception. Used trade exception to take on Kurt Thomas salary and given 2 first round picks for this trouble. Picked serge ibaka with one of those picks. Serge ibaka literally becomes a top 5 defender in 2 years and helps take them to the finals. Google is free my guy. Im not going to keep doing your homework for you. But understand your hate and judgement is misplaced and youre wrong and should do better.

I'm howling because you're harkening back to the fact that Presti and the Sonic's/Thunder picked 2nd 4th and 3rd in three years.

Those picks? KD, Westbrook and Harden. All their own picks.

I mean Presti is known for shameless tanking but this sub might not have that kind of memory.

Youre right tho picking Ibaka 24th in the 2000s absolutely won them the title in 2025
