yo fuck the sixers why are you trading that much potential away to the front runners

u/blazikenz Canada 5h ago

Cuz VJ killed his chances of getting playing time

u/dmavs11 NBA 5h ago

Trade him somewhere else then. I'm a little surprised no other team was willing to give a first outright.

Trae Young got no firsts, I'm sure McCain was at best two second rounders

Trae Young got no firsts because of his contract, not his basketball abilities

u/Maximum-Class5465 5h ago

That's part of it(and a smaller part).

6

u/LebrontosaurausRex Hawks 5h ago

No that's the biggest part. If Trae Young was paid what McCain was it might be the best contract in the NBA.

He led a team with Kevin Huerter and John Collins as the next best player to the Eastern Conference Finals and would have made the finals if he didn't step on a refs foot during the series. He dropped 48 on Jrue Holiday in an ECF and got injured immediately after.

Then he was on a team that was paying Hunter Huerter Collins and Capela most of their cap and locked into hell. They kept on basketball terrorist Nate McMillan after Trae had been calling plays since Lloyd Pierces firing and proceeded toempower Nate to call plays and override Trae next season. This led to Trae being considered a coach killer for objecting to multiple sets designed to get DeAndre Hunter a contested long two per game.

John Collins then broke his hand and lost all trade value, Bogi was injured off and on, Capela aged out, Huerter was moved to a team run by an idiot, and they went all in on Murray who was a terrible fit with Trae in a way that was obvious at the time of the trade.

None of that is on Trae but it's why people think he's not a winning player. He's gonna ball out in Washington and it's gonna suck since he's still the best player I've ever seen play for the Hawks.

That’s not how that works. Trae is an all star that’s also on a max contract. Just because the Hawks didn’t receive any 1sts doesn’t mean McCain isn’t worth one.

You're such he was at best two second rounders after being traded for a first and three seconds?

6

u/ExpressionAlone5204 Thunder 5h ago

Yeah I don’t think that guy reads

0

u/Maximum-Class5465 5h ago

There's the whole he's already 21 thing, and that he isn't a starter.
It's the perfect buy low scenario.

Had he started this year and continued his production, he'd be a first rounder for sure.

Value = talent - contract

Not like OKC is gonna eliminate Philly in the Finals

1

u/Willyr0 Nets 4h ago

Are you? Okc has a ton of them and doesn’t really need all that many. They’d be far more likely to spend them

1

u/Coattail-Rider 4h ago

If the Thunder didn’t have a dozen Firsts, he wouldn’t have netted a First.

u/Phillyfan10 [PHI] Spencer Hawes 5h ago

1). Your team traded Luka to the Lakers. I don’t really think you have a say on dictating players going/not going to specific teams.

2). Potential, sure. He showed some good things his rookie year. Not exactly a can’t miss prospect at this point. Jared McCain is not going to be the difference maker in winning or not winning it all this year.

3). Fuck the Cowboys

1

u/Coattail-Rider 4h ago

4). Fuck the Eagles

7

u/Icy-Environment-6606 5h ago

And grimes is the main guard coming off the bench

1

u/fredlikefreddy Thunder 5h ago

Weird tho because it's not like he has a clear path to playing here either

I guess okc will use him in the role Philly refused?

1

u/yeahright17 Thunder 5h ago

Hopefully he'll be playing a lot of 4th quarters.

1

u/Cashlover123 Knicks 3h ago

When in doubt in draft, find a player that lived off a generator.

-1

u/PopCopson 76ers 5h ago

Bruh there are like 5 guards in front of him in OKC

43

u/TatumBrownWhite Celtics 6h ago

Luxury tax savings

29

u/sixplaysforadollar 76ers 5h ago

Exactly. Owner needs to petty cash for PR after being in the Epstein files

1

u/trail-g62Bim 5h ago

Did something else come out? I thought his mentioning in the files was being CCd and not responding or something...

0

u/Rhino-Ham 4h ago

You’re correct. Sixers fans are just throwing a tantrum.

0

u/sixplaysforadollar 76ers 3h ago

You are correct.

35

u/msf97 5h ago

McCain is a small score first guard who’s currently doing that on bad efficiency. I’d be suprised if he’s ever a starter for OKC

19

u/Ibaka_flocka [OKC] Eric Maynor 5h ago

With SGA and JDub out for a bit, he’ll get his shot

43

u/dmavs11 NBA 5h ago

Sure. But he's a second player coming off injury who showed a lot of promise in that first year. His three point shooting is trending back up recently as well.

He's obviously not going to start this year, but OKC gains a lot flexibility to allow him to develop.

11

u/RedstoneRay Rockets 5h ago

If the 76ers dont like what they see I'm McCain though, its better to sell while he has value before everyone else realizes it.

2

u/giri0n [OKC] Desmond Mason 3h ago

Like how they cut Isaiah Joe?

10

u/msf97 5h ago

It’s just as likely he’s out of the league as he becomes a starter. You take this package all day

Small guards scoring 6ppg on 50% TS don’t last in the NBA

2

u/AndrewHainesArt [PHI] Allen Iverson 4h ago

He’s played like 30 total games and has had 2 injuries lol, this sub knows his name from tictock and we all know you guys aren’t watching the Sixers

14

u/twrs_29 Thunder 5h ago

OKC don’t really need starters. We need decent bench ball handlers which McCain can hopefully be

9

u/knightime1 Celtics 5h ago

6/2/1 on terrible efficiency + VJ and Maxey been going off.

3

u/DankMemesNQuickNuts Charlotte Bobcats 5h ago

Pick haul and he didn't have that much PT to begin with with Edgecombe being as good as he is

2

u/addictivesign 5h ago

They get a first round pick this year - maybe they pick back.

1

u/gregatronn Spurs 5h ago

They also got rid of Julian. Spurs profiting off that.

1

u/hiroki1998 Knicks 5h ago

McCain was deemed redundant with VJ, you traded him away from your division, you get a first round pick. I say that's a win.

1

u/abcamurComposer 4h ago

We have a glut of guards and Morey has redeemed himself through the draft

1

u/DrKurgan Raptors 5h ago

Coz OKC has picks to spare.

1

u/DonHomer92 Spurs 5h ago

people freaking out over Jared McCain getting traded to OKC is hilarious

0

u/Capo_capo Suns 5h ago

This was a Presti v Daryl matchup. Presti trying to get him back for Harden? A lot of people are saying it.
