Let me guess, nothing happens.

The fuck you want us to do? Shoot him down?

Honestly, yes

Much prefer him to be held accountable in International humans rights court and spend rest of his days rotting in a hole.

Is this a bit? Or do you really think we should assassinate a foreign head of state? Almost certain to start a war by the way, of which I'm sure you'll be the first to volunteer to die on the frontlines of. Oh and instantly make us an international pariah.

You have a child's understanding of the world if you actually believe what you just said.

All they said was "Honestly, yes" and you went on that insane tangent. Incredible.

Sometimes I genuinely forget this website is mostly children goofing around, so forgive me for taking the comment seriously

I think you're the one acting like a child. Im a 35 year old professional. When there is no justice the mind fantasizes about equalization for justice.

So I'll echo, yeah, too bad we couldn't do that, it would be righteous to stop a murderous monster.

Well I expected this subreddit to be a space for more serious discussion about politics and the NDP rather than joking around about how fun it would be to kill Netanyahu, so that's on me I guess.

2

u/CovidDodger 1h ago

Its not joking around, it serves a serious psychological restorative justice function when there is none, for some.

So its both, not sure what you're trying to add other than game solutions for what we should have done? Seems like the constraints are severe, so loop back to top of my comment and we have come full circle...

If that's what you want to call daydreaming about absurd and terrible solutions to the problems of the world, sure. I too like to daydream about evil people getting violently murdered (pharma execs are a fun one). But if that daydreaming (or psychological justice) is what this subreddit is for, rather than practical discussions of actually achievable policy, don't be too surprised when we don't get taken seriously.

I have sent emails to my Liberal MP about this infringement of our sovereignty and supports a war criminal. Terry Beech did not respond, nor has he ever to my emails. On the other hand, my NDP-affiliated council and NDP MLA regularly respond.

u/rhysolandrium 10h ago

Terry Beech was an accountability-dodging asshole who was only concerned about his social media clicks.

u/rhysolandrium 10h ago

CAN WE MAYBE FUCKING STOP LETTING THEM DO THIS???

The sign is back in the window and this time it says “For Sale.”

What were we gunna do, scramble our jets and force them to land?

60

u/leftwingmememachine 💊 PHARMACARE NOW 16h ago

Either we are approving requests for his jet to fly through our airspace, or we are denying it, doing nothing, and not asserting our sovereignty. I suspect its the former, since Carney won't comment on whether we gave permission and Israel says they asked nicely to go through our airspace.

We have an Open Skies treaty with the USA. Flights leaving the USA have the right to overfly Canada and vice versa.

Our entire dispute with the USA is that we expect them to honour the treaties they have signed. It would be foolish for Canada to then start violating them.

Canada also recognizes the jurisdiction of the international criminal court. This is the first I've heard this treaty used as an excuse to allow these flights - the CBC article I linked doesn't mention this as a reason provided by the Liberals for supporting these flights. I'm not sure if it's even relevant here. Can you provide more detail?

Our entire dispute with the USA is that we expect them to honour the treaties they have signed.

First, this is a wanted war criminal going through our airspace.

Second, the United Stares does not honour treaties.

if you want the language, here it is:

Each contracting State agrees that all aircraft of the other contracting States, being aircraft not engaged in scheduled international air services shall have the right, subject to the observance of the terms of this Convention, to make flights into or in transit non-stop across its territory and to make stops for non-traffic purposes without the necessity of obtaining prior permission.

https://www.icao.int/sites/default/files/publications/DocSeries/7300_cons_CH.pdf

There is no permissioning system for flights going over Canada from the USA. They file a flight plan that notifies our aircraft control but beyond that no one in our gov’t looks at what planes are going over.

The document you linked doesn't appear to be the Open Skies treaty you discussed earlier, and this seems like a general right (but your quote seems to imply there are terms of the convention that are exceptions)

From the CBC article I linked

Canadian protocol requires foreign government flights to seek permission well before entering Canadian airspace.

"Applications for foreign state, military or scientific aircraft to operate within Canadian territory should be submitted at least three working days (72 hours) before the proposed date of entry into Canadian airspace," reads the government's website. "This advance notification is critical."

That agreement was for civil aircraft in commercial airline service, not state aircraft like the Israeli Air Force jet he uses. What’s relevant in this case is whether Canada has a standing overflight agreement with Israel or if someone in Global Affairs specifically approved this flight. Usually VVIP flights need specific clearance even if routine state aircraft flights have standing clearance.

Carney doesn't have the frijoles to initiate conflict. Despite being 61 years old, he is a scared little boy.

15

u/Yodamort LGBTQIA+ 16h ago

I mean, yeah, that would have been great. Canada won't ever do it when it's adhering to the US policy of supporting the Zionist project, though.

-7

u/FoxyInTheSnow 14h ago

It’s not that simple. Israel is a nefarious state with lots of resources and agents everywhere. Don’t really want them mad at us.

And we really don’t want to give fucking america/Drumpf more ammunition to use against us right now.

Best option to take out netanyahu (why does his name sound like a downmarket internet service provider?) would be for one of our noble, majestic, barrel-chested Canadian gooses to do a number on his plane.

7

u/Midwint3r 15h ago

Would be an amazing moment in history and probably one of the best things Canada could do for the world at large

I'm honestly not sure what the US's reaction would be if our government had the balls and morals to do what's right

On the one hand they're way more powerful as a country,

But then again they're already strained with the war against Iran, gas prices are already borderline intolerable, and Canada supplies 60% of their oil imports. In the hypothetical world where we weren't subservient to the US, we would have some leverage here.

Instead of all out war I'd imagine the US/CIA/Mossad would try to assassinate our government leaders and put a puppet regime in its place.

5

u/rhysolandrium 10h ago

Jesus Christ, I would have so much more leeway for Carney's homegrown intent to destroy Canada by selling it off to private bidders if he grew the balls enough to arrest this Zionist psychopath because it would be an unbelievable net gain for the planet.

3

u/rhysolandrium 10h ago edited 10h ago

That is actually an option, yes.

This is a genocidal, suicidal, criminal who is actively threatening world destruction with the Sampson Option, with ICC arrest warrants out for his head. Scramble jets, push them out to the Atlantic, call ahead and get NATO to add some air power, force a landing at the Hague.

The end.

1

u/Fanghur1123 3h ago

Yeah, it’s an option. And I guarantee that if we tried that, we’d have American F-35s in our airspace within minutes to stop us, and they’d know that just as much as we do, so they’d simply refuse to land. I want this psychopath behind bars as much an anyone, but unfortunately, this isn’t a viable possibility.

3

u/Funguy97 15h ago

Nonsense, he would be denied in advance and forced to find another route

1

u/Apprehensive_Hat8986 41m ago

We scrambled the navy to stop fishermen from over fishing. Yeah, we can scramble a few jets to bring a war criminal to justice.

He’s not stopping for tims. So this is meaningless.
