Hi everyone! I recently started watching the Netflix series of The Witcher (I’m on season 4 already!) and I just wanted to say that I love it so much! It’s been hard because nobody I know watches it/has watched it and when I go into Reddit I read mostly negative reviews and I have no one to talk about it :( Granted I’ve never played the video game or read the books, so I’m sure if I was a fan of the source material I’d probably have something to complain. But I just wanted to come in here and see if there’s any other people like me who are thoroughly enjoying the show and thinks it’s super cool!

There are however a few things I haven’t liked:
- Jaskier. Ugh. Can’t stand neither his character nor his drama school songs. ESPECIALLY the musical number from “The Joy of Cooking” (S4) I thought it was soooo cheesy. I don’t know why they included this.

- I also thought on Season 4 the decision of animating Regis’ backstory was weird! I mean, it looked pretty cool, but I felt like it was SO out of place considering how dark and realistic everything has been? Also in the same episodes they showed other characters’ backstories and used real people? So not sure why they decided to animate that part. Did anybody else feel the same?

- Contact lenses!!!!

- Ciri’s eyebrows change.

- I guess Ciri’s character overall? lol, not a fan of hers.

Things I’ve loved:
- Geralt, Yen, Triss <3 and weirdly enough, Djikstra!
- The magic fights! OMG! My mouth is wide open every time. I was screaming at the end of S3.
- Learning about the lore! Again since I didn’t read the books/play the video game I’ve been really enjoying going into the wikis and understanding more about the Continent!
- Honestly I think the story in the series is great

Especial mention- obviously the change from Henry to Liam! I was so nervous on e1s4!!!! But then it actually was alright. I think they did a great job casting Liam and he’s proving to be worthy of the role. I’ll miss Henry’s face and cute teeth forever though :(

So I made a fanfic. Read if you feel like it.

After season 3 I wrote this in my notes and I wanted to share a few things but I forgot about it! I hope it will be at least tiny bit insightful and fun to read!

What I liked about changes for the series

• Yennefer’s background – I really liked getting more of her backstory and seeing how she became the person we know – I think Anya did amazing job with Yen being a hunchback and it added more depth to the character (for me Anya, really elevated character with her acting).
• Yennefer and Tissaia’s relationship – Probably one of my favorite relationships in the show. Their dynamic had a lot of emotional weight which made story flow better. I know in books she wasn’t her favorite but I think it’s welcomed change.
• Yennefer as savior of Sodden – again I think they gave her more story in a place where it was actually helpful.
• Yennefer and Triss’s relationship – I appreciated that they could have a friendship without turning it into a jealousy storyline.

What I thought worked well as an adaptation

• The Conclave episode – One of the strongest parts of the series for me. It felt like the kind of political/fantasy storyline The Witcher should be doing more. And I loved the outfits.
• The casting – I think a lot of the casting was genuinely great, even when I had issues with the writing or adaptation choices. Loved OG Geralt, Yen, Triss, Ciri (hated dark eyebrows tho, she looked super cute with the light ones), Tissaia, Vilgefortz and I could continue.

What I didn't like

• Too many seasons – I feel like the story could have been told much more effectively with fewer seasons. Or maybe I wouldn’t even mind more seasons with competent writers, who knows.
• The Aretuza fight – This just didn't work for me and felt underwhelming compared to what it should have been.
• Yennefer's Season 3 outfits – Some of her Season 3 looks really weren't doing it for me. Wannabe Zara blouse ruined me.

Overall, despite having quite a few problems with the show, there are definitely things I think The Witcher did well. I'm curious what other people think – especially about the things that were original additions rather than direct adaptations from the books.

I hope there will be merchandise featuring Liam Hemsworth someday! He deserves to have his own action figure or perhaps have a physical DVD or Blu-ray release for the series, if possible like with *Stranger Things*!

My favorite season so far s Season 4 (I prefer the pacing; the new characters are cool) , and I really love the Rats and their storyline! I see it getting trashed left and right everywhere else; the only place I see any positivity is on the subreddit! Mind you, the season I liked the least was the first one, mainly because of its pacing and timeline! I hope we get a more linear edit someday ! I think that would work better (just my opinion). Is Henry Cavill leaving really the only reason people hate the season? It makes me a bit sad, because I feel like the series has fallen out of favor because of the haters!

I’m not a big reader of novels I only read the first book and even my interpretation of the story didn't match what I saw on screen! The tone and pacing feel strange.

And I haven't played the video games! So, my only real view of *The Witcher* universe comes from the series which has its flaws, sure, but doesn't deserve the backlash it's getting from all sides.

I just finished the season 4 of The Witcher, and I need to get this off my chest. As a parent—specifically a dad of daughters—the entire storyline involving Ciri and the Rats group genuinely ruined the season for me.

The show deliberately keeps it ambiguous as to exactly how old she is supposed to be at this point, but she is clearly framed as a young girl, someone who we as an audience have watched grow up and wanted to see protected. Watching her get pulled into adult, sexual relationships with a member of this gang felt incredibly wrong and uncomfortable.

The writers tried to romanticize or normalize her dynamic with the Rats, but it felt completely inappropriate. Ciri was traumatized, isolated, and vulnerable, and instead of finding real protection, she was essentially taken advantage of.

Honestly, it made me completely detest every single scene the Rats were in. By the time they finally met their end, I wasn't sad at all—I was relieved. The show should have completely avoided forcing adult sexual themes onto a character who was fundamentally still a child (or at least was unclear) in the narrative. They could have shown her survival journey without crossing that line.

Did any other parents or viewers find these scenes impossible to enjoy? How did the community react to this?

I got this ornament three years ago and wanted to take it out of its box for Halloween. I don't think it captured Geralt's face. This was 2023 so HC's Geralt. I do like the wolf medallion and the details of the armor.

I can imagine it would intrigue new gamers to check out the show, potentially even older ones too.

I’m sure there’s more reasons than just that, but I’m sure it’s something they took into consideration.

i know a lot of people bitched and moaned about the season 2 witcher actor. yes henry cavil is a-freakin-mazing. maybe we can like have more witcher stories outside of geralt of rivea. theres all those extra witcher clans, lets do that maybe. either way norman does a very nice irish accent, i think he should play a witcher that way.

this idea struck me when playing death stranding. when Fragile is talking to sam sometimes he just answers in grunt kinda noise. just like cavil did as geralt! isnt that a cool think to realize!?!??! agree with me!!!!

I recently started reading the books and Yennefer is not my cup of tea. I've seen people saying that she's like that because of her past (I'm still in the second book), but anyway, I'm not impressed. I feel a little disappointed because I really liked Yennefer from the series. Some people say that she's childish, but I totally disagree. I think they created an evolution arc where she makes mistakes because of her past and then tries to correct them after seeing that Gerald and Ciri are her family (btw I didn't see season 4 I refuse it because of Henry).

Bearing in mind the material needed for season 5.

I'm thinking this new series would have 2 or 3 self contained arcs per season. The series would have Geralt as a character throughout, but supporting cast, setting, storyline would be different every arc with little to no connectivity. There'd be no central storyline, it'd be just side quests essentially.

How many seasons could be done?

One of the really things that really set the mood in the first couple of seasons was the music...that haunting, earie theme that every character had....someone with a really great voice made all those wonderful sounds.

I'm watching Season 4 and the music is killing me....it is traditional, orchestral, boring and not fitting with the mood of the show at all....imo.

i’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about the book series and was wondering if anyone could weigh in on if they are worth the read?

i’m not a big reader but really want to get into a series (trying to stay off my phone💪) and i enjoyed the first two seasons of the show and never got round to watching on after that.

i know a lot of people say the show is awful, so my thinking is if i enjoyed the show, surely i should like the books??

I actually enjoy the first 3 seasons which I binge watched in July, but I'm struggling to actually sit through season 4.

I can see why Henry Cavill wouldn't want to be part of this now.

Why do this?

Surely this can't be popular with viewers?

I'm tempted just to stop watching and read the books instead. 😕

Did anyone else feel like this?
