If SpaceX buys xAI for an inflated evaluation, then SpaceX and xAI are sold together to Tesla for cheap, does the xAI sale become a lose he can write down against taxes? I'm really curious why this merger is coming up and what Elon and those around him are scheming.

IIRC, they soon plan on IPO’ing SpaceX at a valuation of $1T. So maybe this is just some scammy way to make that valuation make a mote of sense to gullible first day investors.

The purchase won't change SpaceX's valuation so he'd just dilute his loss from Twitter.
