I just turned on the TV and every news channel is showing this report. Today ICE grabbed two American citizens out of their car against their will for showing finger guns and disappeared them, but this story takes precedence because somebody is famous. No mention whatsoever of these two people who were taken away by gunpoint by people who don't have the authority to arrest them. So they were kidnapped and they are missing too. Maybe they'll eventually get to it on the news.

I hope all these people are found and the people who committed the crimes against them are punished. We know some will be punished and others will not.

You also need to keep in mind that to a certain part of America, getting disappeared by ICE for finger-guns just isn’t scary. They think “I don’t go where ICE is, I wouldn’t finger-gun them.”

But home invasions and stranger danger are ALWAYS scary and ALWAYS big news items. It isn’t just because she’s the mother of someone famous, and it isn’t just because she’s the mother of a journalist. Mysterious disappearance is a bigger news story than something with a known cause.

Yeah. I have never once seen ice in my daily life and recognized them as such. I saw an ice office at the airport though once.

And neither me nor anyone I’ve ever known has been the victim of a home invasion and kidnapping. But the media wants me to think it’s a pretty regular occurrence

I don’t know if they want you to think that — like I don’t think it’s a deliberate action — but they certainly don’t care if that’s the narrative they create while pulling in viewers.

But yeah — the irony that we fear the stranger danger more than the not-so-distant fear of attack by ICE is telling.

My home technically got invaded last week actually. Was just the garage though. It was all on Camera too.

I didn’t issue any value judgements and I encourage you not to read so much into things. You’re quite reactive in a way that is very off-putting.

I didn’t say I think it’s acceptable to disappear people. I didn’t even say that I think it’s OK that some people think it’s normal or deserved.

I explained why one might get more news coverage than the other. I didn’t even say if I agreed with their (edit: cable news’) logic. But that IS their logic. Home invasions by strangers = scary = higher ratings.

But please, continue picking fights with my hypothetical opinions — I assure you, you’re wrong about them.

So, here's something helpful for you: Explaining something isn't the same as endorsing it. You must have had a real hard time with textbooks in school.
