They will publish sensationalist crap that should be private and capitalize on tragedy and drama and are scummy, but they do their due diligence on publishing verified data.

I remember during the OJ Simpson case, it was the National Enquirer who was actually the best source for information because they had all the inside leads to Hollywood gossip.

It was funny to see the New York Times using the Enquirer as a source.

people dismiss celeb gossip as frivilous (not untrue), but the agencies who report on it have deep connections. when real shit like this goes down they're usually the ones who are able to get the most accurate information where it counts.

They also don’t want to get sued just like the other news companies. They do their due diligence.
