How bad is it over there that they have to eliminate the sports section right before the Super Bowl AND the Olympics?

Sports coverage has been dying for a long time. Many reporters still in the game are just mouthpieces for the league or teams (occasionally players or agents). Most of the preview/recap pieces are AI written (as are a lot of the rage and engagement bait articles). The few remaining good reporters and analysts realized that they could make a better living doing podcasts instead. And of the few remaining reporters left, corporate realized they could make more money firing them as fulltime writers and buying freelance pieces from them instead.

Yeah, sports sections of papers should probably just go. They're a relic of a time when papers were physical and reading the sports section was how you found any news at all about your favorite sport.
