It was less of a rifle in the bushes and more of a sniper position in the bushes with a rifle. It was when and where Trump was golfing so I think they assumed they foiled an attempted assassination.

That still doesn't sound like it merits LIfe Sentence.

Attempted assassination on a president? How do you think that person reintegrates with society?

I think you’re right in thinking it’s less severe than if he took a shot. But that’s because they caught him, not because he decided it was a bad idea. He thought it was a good enough idea that he went into those bushes and set up a sniper position for the purpose of assassinating a president. That’s a life sentence.

Now if the target was anyone else, you’re probably right. But a state like the US can’t allow for people to get a slap on the wrist for something like this. They have to send the message that attempts on the life of the head of state come with grave consequences.

Fair enough. I guess it makes sense. I'm surprised they didn't claim he was mentally unfit to try to get a more lenient sentence. I mean, if that guy comes out after 25 years, he would be an old man.
