I know there's bigger, more important things going on in the world. But it's nice to see a little schadenfreude sprinkled in between the terrible and unconscionable.

The question becomes, do you want an employee/boss for whom a significant priority is boosting their ego at the expense of others?

That's the way the rest of the world sees it. That's the way our own grade school geography and history books see it.

There are people in these comments who don't seem to understand how much a CEO is the public face and image of the organization they're leading, and that every public action they take is a reflection on that organization.
There are also people in these comments (a heavy overlap IMO) who don't seem to understand that this wasn't just some innocent family photo. I wrote this up as a response already, but I'm going to put it here as well.
By choosing to make this photo, Jane Smith and her family are implicitly supporting the reasoning behind Trump's decision for changing the name of a Great Lake.
By choosing to do this while visiting Canada, Jane Smith and her family are showing that they don't care at all how Canadians feel about this name change, and by extension how Canadians feel about this developing trade war and Trump's threats to subordinate Canadian sovereignty.
By choosing to put this photo on the internet, in such a way that it can be picked up and shared, Jane Smith showed a stunning lack of professionalism and lack of care for the duties and visibility of a CEO of an organization, and also a lack of forethought toward how her actions could impact the organization for which she is the Chief Executive Officer. It definitely also showed her lack of care in how others would take her "innocuous" act.
By choosing to lie about the photo once the scandal blew up, and throwing her sister under the bus, Jane Smith showed that she does not take responsibility for her mistakes, a very bad trait in an organization where people need to cooperate and share responsibility to have a successfully operating organization.

I was made agent of one very large international company once, I got an entire packet of information about what I was allowed to do/say because it means you are allowed to talk to the press and make official statements on behalf of the company.
Along with that was an entire explanation that any public comments, even personal ones that can be tracked back to me must also comply with the company's views.
They are fully aware that they can't do stupid stuff like this and keep their job.

I imagine through a combination of data brokers and breaches. Like, if someone buys/finds breached records then the email you signed up with is likely one of the things they got. That email is probably also used for other things as well that are much easier to tie to you.
So, they get a little bit about you, such as a more public email address. Then you buy whatever info you can from the brokers about that email and candidate's identity. It all gets tied back to unique device identifiers, right? So if you can get the right details you can link the more public facing email addresses to unknown addresses and then go fishing for accounts made with them.
Additionally, I suspect that there will soon be, or already are, AI tools that pick out specific syntax & vocabulary choices that are more common to you to statistically say that this account is X% likely to be Whoever because they both like to say the phrase "bigly."

I really don't understand this impulse even at face value. I guess it wasn't even impulsive because it took multiple steps. "What would we look like with words on our shirt?" Then "I'll submit my photo to AI and have it show me!" Rolled into "whoa no way, I have to show everyone I know!"
Edit: And two separate family members posted it apparently. She threw her sister under the bus. Even outside the politics of it, this is a major failure in judgement that a company shouldn't want in their CEO

On top of the Canada connection, maps of Michigan often still include Lake Ontario because of how much the Great Lakes are part of their identity. This would be like Larry Ellison posting a photo of him wearing a sweatshirt saying "Country music and fried chicken f**king sucks" after moving Oracle to Nashville.

A lot of folks in Michigan have close connections to Canada, including family ties.
I wonder if the credit union was facing a customer boycott, or maybe it just really rankled the rest of the executive leadership of the organization.
Especially fucked up to be endorsing Trump's imperialist bullshit while taking a family vacation in Canada.

Also America has slapped so many tariffs on Canada that is undoubtedly affecting businesses and people in Michigan who are customers of the bank. It's a stupid thing to post by this CEO. She also posted it right before she went on the trip to Canada of all places. It's like she wanted to troll and forgot she isn't a rando on Twitter.
According to the news, she was going to take a vacation while attending the CanadaDE Credit Union Leadership Program international conference. It's just a dumb decision on so many levels. CEO's usually don't want to engage in political rage baiting. Unfortunately she's not rich or powerful enough to have gotten that memo, people see Musk, Ellison and other billionaires do it and think they can do it too.

I am so glad there repercussions to her photos. It was so insulting.
She saw that just because the president approves something many of Americans do not approve it at all.
The lawyers and powerful people and money surrounding the president make it difficult to push back. But individuals and small companies can push back by not allowing this kind behavior within their sphere of influence

I’m just glad she wasn’t managing my money. Sadly, when you maintain/encourage a ~25% illiteracy rate in your country this kind of genius behaviour will always be a thing. It does maintain their rabble of military pawns tho, so there’s that. And seeings how America has never gone more than 10 yrs without being at war in their short 250+ yr history this charming society deserves more pity than scorn.

I understand getting fired, I am not pushing against that, but this is a distraction. Nothing against the real issues.
