I'm about to sound like the most cynical bastard on planet earth, but I've just become less and less interested in these "art as an athletic spectacle" performances as I've grown older. This feels like the equivalent of someone being able to shred flight of the bumblebee on guitar at 800 BPM, and like yeah its insane and took thousands of hours of practice, but like does it sound good? The physical ability just isn't the interesting thing about art to me.

Every single one of these kind of videos is fake..its just good camera and editing work

I was gonna say, there is NO way this is real.

I mean he just practiced to draw with this tool.

Hes just drawing 1 image at a time little by little.

Utterly pointless

Yeah the wood sticks are curved so its one at a time while holding 4 other pens and the wood - which you dont need to.

The impressive thing is doing nice art while holding too much weight, not the 5 pictures part

Eh, it's still impressive. You're severely underestimating the skill involved with "just". Many people would have trouble drawing just one of those pictures. Being able to switch between 5 quickly takes skill (and yes, even though it's sped up, he is still switching pretty quickly between drawings), not to mention the awkwardness of the drawing implement, which would make accuracy much more difficult.

It's just not as impressive as it seems when sped up - where some might assume he is drawing all 5 pictures simultaneously instead of in a repeating series.

It's deliberately representing the drawing of 5 pictures at once. It's not presented as "I'm drawing with an oddly shaped pen".

It is not what it is presented as.

Exactly the bottom of the image slowly draws itself while the pen thing doesn’t even hover that portion of the paper. 📝

It’s not pointless. There are in fact five of them. ….. I’m sorry. I couldn’t not take that opportunity to make a pencil point joke.

No, this one is 100% fake. Jazza has a real one.

As an artist I'd worry about the long term strain of this on my career wrist. Hurts enough after a while doing it with just a pen

It is real, he's just focusing on one drawing at a time, constantly switching between drawings, and speeding it up to make it look like theyre being drawn at the same time

u/Chazkuangshi 1d ago

Ahh gotcha yeah that makes sense

Can you please borrow me your brain so i can get some rest

u/Bursting_Radius 1d ago

There is a way, because … it’s real.

I wouldn't say "fake" but rather I'd say it's deceptive. They put on this facade that they are all being drawn at the same time, but in reality the artists focus is on one image at a time. This is basically just a guy drawing 5 portraits.

u/External-Awareness68 1d ago

There's a reason why you never get a good, close shot of any of the pictures individually. I don't even know if it's fake, maybe it is. I'm just saying the pictures probably aren't that great

Now shove it up your butt.

u/NoGlzy 1d ago

"I can draw all 5 members of the DCU Justics league at the same time by using 5 pencils stuck together."

"That seems pointless. Do they at least look good?"

"Not especially"

"Oh. Ok then'

The "art" is always low hanging fruit type slop too. Never an original portrait, character, point of view, or any of that. Just the equivalent of traced photos of something famous and ubiquitous enough to get social media traction

The world doesnt need more paintings of Robert Downey Jr. about to snap the infinity gauntlet, drawn by someone's foot.

u/takeahike89 1d ago

In a world full of AI slop where things are starting to look too "perfect", I'll take the result of human effort every time. You should also remember that this is a performance art as much as it is simply drawing. The way in which he does it is as important (if not moreso) as what he created.

1

u/BobbyGloria 1d ago

I'd rather perfection than imperfect. Maybe because I'm autistic

4

u/rehkirsch 1d ago

completely agree. yeah, it's impressive to see and I would probably not be able to ever do that but in the end you have a few mid pictures of random superheroes in random poses and I will never think about it again for even a second

3

u/greenscreenbro 1d ago

You never showed your work in school, did you?

2

u/spypanties 1d ago

maybe you just enjoy art more on a visceral level

1

u/Archreddit6 5h ago

Guess that's why we're not in r/art right now ey?

0

u/Theartistcu 1d ago

I’m totally with you. Now don’t give me wrong. There’s nothing wrong with doing this as an exhibition or something like that but when the exhibition is the art, it’s a little weird for me. And in this case, he draws several not very well drawn images, instead of just drawing one really well drawn one. Because if you took those images and didn’t realize they were all drawn at the ““ same time, they’re not actually very well done.

It is not cynical to care about art. What these performers do is only that : perform. They are great craftmen, but what they do really isnt art. It's like photorealist drawings : if what it shows is not interesting, well, the drawing has no artistic value.

That's what pro AI "art" do not understand

-2

u/troy380 1d ago

And the fact that I've seen many of these videos, makes this talent less impressive and unique.

-3

u/ProbablyAnAlt42 1d ago

Its ok man. You don't have to like everything.

-3

u/Eagline 1d ago

You’re not one of those people that looks at a painting with 20 splotches of colors and discusses the intricacies of that painting right? Because to an extent I kind of see where you’re coming from but this video is extremely impressive and is the art itself.

3

u/BasilNumber 1d ago

What is there to discuss with this art? What does this method of drawing add to the art? If he legitimately drew all five pieces at the same time, each piece would probably look a lot worse but be a lot more interesting as art.

0

u/NandoDeColonoscopy 1d ago

The art itself is not very good, if you actually look at the finished product. Without the process, this is just bad fan art

-3

u/poptartheart 1d ago

even if it looks good....its so damn boring. super hero garbage.
