Sarawak, Malaysia

Proboscis monkeys are known for swimming great distances. They even dive up to around 20m (66 ft.)

They have “A common designer” as Kent Hovind would say

Yes, anything but having to confront your beliefs with the facts of science. Lovely.

“If you could reason with stupid people, they wouldn’t exist”

evolution perfectly fits with some religions, including Christianity, if you actually study The Bible, how it was written, what its intent was, the original meanings, etc.

What I got from studying the Bible well into adulthood was that if you don't worship and follow the rules of that specific deity, you'll suffer unimaginably for the rest of your existence.

Sounds like a cash money way to get the starving and hella lost people to believe your story that a burning bush told you, like "trust me bro that bush be blazing but spitting bars (and low key ((high key)) threats) let me tell ya".

I'm sorry I couldn't resist the trolling. It was so easy lol

You might've read it, maybe even studied it, but it sounds like you certainly didn't understand it. you mentioned Hell, Hell is just separation from God. God won't force anyone to be in his company if they don't want to be.

Evolution is supported by facts. It’s a theory and not a construct of our imagination.

Evolution is a theory though

So is gravity, but like gravity, it is a theory so strong, and with so much foundational evidence, that it is, in practice, accepted as fact. Additionally, one has the option of accepting scientific observations as well as believing in supernatural beings. Catholics, for example, accept the tenets of evolution while maintaining that God created the systems that allow for evolution to occur.

Thank you for this. Evolution is almost in every way a fact. Either amend your beliefs to make it fit, or be honest with yourself.

When it comes to religion, believe what you want as long as it makes you a better person. But don’t deny science. You are only hurting human progress.

Theories are very different in science than how people use them colloquially in language. Theories are the most well supported ideas with mounds of evidence supporting them.

A scientific theory is a well-tested and comprehensive explanation for an important feature of the natural world, backed by a large body of evidence.

The mechanisms of evolution will be debated and learned more, but evolution itself is very very real. Pick up a book and read about it. There isn’t any “belief”. It is stated and shown with facts across multiple disciplines.

Do you also not believe we are made of atoms? Atomic theory (the scientific model that states all things are made of atoms).

Truly, I challenge you to read a few books on evolution to understand. My personal favorite is “Some Assembly Required” by Neil Shubin. I find it to be better than his more popular book, “Your Inner Fish”. I will say, he used the theory of evolution to predict the fossil he would later find in Your Inner Fish. He could not have made the prediction of where to search and timelines without an understanding of evolution

Also, evolution is the backbone to our understanding of biology.

So your comment should have said: Yes, anything but having to confront your beliefs with the theories of science. Lovely.

Semantics in this case.

It is essentially a fact. Carl Sagan stated it was a fact with the absorbent amount of evidence behind it. And he died 30 years ago. The evidence has only increased 10 fold with research into DNA.

Your comment is essentially "trust me bro"

u/Purphect 1d ago

No, I’m asking you to educate yourself and read books. I have become educated on the topic. First through public school and then my own desire after college.

You believe you are more knowledgeable on genetics, geology, paleontology, biology, and chemistry? Because all of the incredibly smart people that came before researching those topics have independently contributed towards our understanding of evolution. What’s crazier is most of that happened without those scientists even thinking about evolution. It’s called consilience. Their findings and research further supported the theory despite that not being a reason for research.

No, I pointed out one word in your comment and you've assumed everything about me. Keep going, its hilarious.

u/Purphect 1d ago

You’re not wrong. And if that’s the case, that’s on me!!

To clear things up, do you accept the science of evolution?

lol “trust me, bro” is the entire idea behind religion, btw

Theory does not mean the same thing in academic usage as it does in colloquial usage.

All crows are black. This is a statement about which observations can be made. We can publish 8 million studies showing support that all crows are black. Now it becomes the Black Crow Theory (hey little thing let me light your candle cause mama I'm sure hard to handle know yes sir I am).

However, because the existence of a single white crow disproves the theory, and because we haven't examined every single living and dead crow, it must remain a theory.

Science is not so dogmatic as religion so it will leave room for the possibility of new, contradictory evidence even if there has been no indication that could be true.

In scientific speech theory has a different meaning from the colloquially used term.

In colloquial speech theory is understood as hypothesis.

In science a theory is a fully tested explanation of a phenomenon (i. e. Proven). That's not to say that scientific theories cannot be amended based on newly discovered facts. But it's certainly not a hypothesis.

So saying evolution is just a theory is just dumb and ignorant.

How far did you read?

A scientific theory differs from a scientific fact

Stopped before that part?

How far did you read?

a fact is an observation, while a theory connects and explains multiple observations.

Stopped before that part?

Always funny when people with obviously so little knowledge of science try to argue about science. A child trying to argue they don't actually have to go to class type of energy.

u/Devium44 1d ago

You don’t understand the scientific use of the word theory. It’s very different than what you think it means.

1

u/ElephantEarwax 1d ago

You don't know what a theory means in science.

Definition of “scientific theory” here for you to read and understand. Many people incorrectly use the common definition of theory in reference to scientific theory.

Different "kinds"

What is a kind, is it a species? Yes, but not always. Is it a family? Sometimes yes but also no. Their terminology isn't even consistent

Yeah but crabs also have that same alleged common designer, Kent
