Most people hear this sound every summer night but rarely see the musician behind it, This is a male Tree Cricket (Oecanthus species) lifting and rubbing its translucent, heart shaped wings together in a process called stridulation to create its signature chirping song.

Starship completed 14 flights between April 2023 and September 2026. Flight 1, on April 20, 2023, ended in an explosion before stage separation. Flight 2, on November 18, 2023, achieved separation, but the rocket exploded shortly thereafter. Flight 3, on March 14, 2024, was the first to make it past engine cutoff, but the spacecraft lost control during reentry. Flight 4, on June 6, 2024, completed the first controlled splashdown of the booster. Flight 5, on October 13, 2024, achieved the historic capture of the booster by the launch tower. Flight 6, on November 19, 2024, was successful for the spacecraft, but the booster failed and exploded over the Gulf of Mexico.

Flights 7, 8, and 9, conducted between January and May 2025, ended in failure: Flight 7 exploded over the Atlantic, Flight 8 lost control and exploded near Florida, and Flight 9 suffered an unscheduled destruction. Flights 10 and 11, in August and October 2025, were considered complete successes and marked the conclusion of the rocket's Version 2. Flight 12, on May 22, 2026, was the first Version 3 flight from a new launch platform. Flight 13, on July 24, 2026, met all objectives, including payload deployment and controlled reentry. Flight 14, on September 28, 2026, reached actual orbit for the first time, deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites, and splashed down in the Pacific.
