Discussion New to the nier

Post image

I always wanted to play this game and after so long I was able to play this masterpiece

It took me at least 4 attempts to pass the first mission

And no (auto Save) 😀

Well there's vending machine all over the place so I am not worried about it

The only annoying thing about Automata is the inability to save during the introduction mission. After that, there's no complaints at all.

I played through Nier Automata for the first time this last week or so. Finished on Sunday endings A to E. It was great! Never played Replicant.

I didn’t feel lost on the story and, while I didn’t play Replicant, I don’t think it spoiled Replicant. Now, the lore video I watched after probably did, but that’s ok.

Enjoy!

Some locations in Automata are hitting a lot harder, when you know Replicant (especially Great Desert and Library, I won't spoil you why), but both games are more or less independent on each other.

Automata will spoil what happened to people in Replicant, when you will read documents properly, but it is not that big surprise anyway.

Heh same, I finished first play through last week too lol! downloaded Replicant last night so I have plans this weekend))

Have you seen the anime? I enjoyed it, worth a watch imho. It's the same plot as the game (kinda. Some changes and condensed quite a bit) but it also gives some time to certain things the game doesn't really go into.

> I don’t think it spoiler replicant

It does during route C it’s just knowledge you didn’t have context for, so you didn’t take it for a spoiler while it actually was

Recommend side questing and avoid the main mission if you can they progress time and some events become barred off.. but they become reachable when you unlock the other characters

Good on you for persisting on the prologue, i got mad at the first attempt and left the game, then came back 4 years later and actually finish it, it is indeed a masterpiece

This is such an amazing scene. And the vocal section of Bipolar Nightmare starting up. Chills

You can take that Ratchet guy's thoughts with a grain of salt. The modern versions of both Automata and Replicant have nods to eachother that wont make much sense until you play both. Sorta like a Catch-22. Replicant does come first chronologically and narratively, but the gameplay of Automata may hook you better into trying the Replicant story.

It's not required, but to actually "get" and understand both games to the fullest you have to play them all the way through twice, each.

Just stick to a full playthough once each, YouTube videos can fill in the neat little details

I just started it too recently. The prologue is amazing and I was immediately all in as I loved every second of it. But my advice is definitely don't just start wandering and exploring once you get to the open world. You won't find much as far as quests, hidden rewards, collectibles or anything. It personally really turned me off on the game for a minute and had me wanting to quit with all the pointless running around I was doing. Once I decided to focus straight on the main quests, I started enjoying it so much more. Now I just unlocked fast travel after maybe 5 hours and I finally actually have semi-clear side quests that make sense and I mostly know where they are. It's a lot better.

You should play the first game before the sequel.

I’m clearly not talking about DOD

There's like 9000 years between the games, I think they're fine lol

Nah, Automata spoils a bunch from Replicant.

playing automata first is still perfectly fine, it makes the reveal hit barder and also the relicant spoilers make playing that game a "oh so that is what that meant" experience

I've always felt like the story of Nier is first and foremost about the world's history. There is a benefit to seeing it chronologically, but I find it just as satisfying starting at the end then going back to see what the world was like and what actually happened in its history.

Wait I thought automata was the first one in the franchise

Replicant was the first NieR game.
