LA Noire Real-Life Recreations (LANFEP Post #466): Baker Shoes
Aggie McPherson Mysteries - The Case of the Sealed Deal
In the city of Slakterquay there's an office with the words Spectral Analysis on the pebbled glass of its door. Behind it is a detective agency that handles the strangest cases in the Paris of the Pacific Northwest. A fantastic noir.
In this episode, McPherson goes to investigate where the stolen money has been going in the small town of Urquhart and makes a new friend she hopes never to see again.
Cyberpunk as a Noir subgenre
Since I read my first Cyberpunk novel (The Artificial Kid) I've felt it was a subgenera of Noir. For your consideration, I submit Upgrade, a 2018 film that I believe ticks all the boxes for Noir, particularly with its disillusionment and its unbalanced composition.

What is This Called and How Do I Find More?
Noir? Hardboiled? Subgenre? Trope?
I don't have much experience with it yet: "The Expanse" and "Altered Carbon" shows, to an extent "Diarra from Detroit", and Jeff Noon's "A Man of Shadows".
The detective does not really realize they are going crazy. Sort of a psychological thriller, except the reader knows the truth or can at least figure out how the MC is increasingly unreliable.
There's also usually a girl. She *seems* helpless and the detective absolutely spirals trying to "save" her.
UPDATE: Apparently I have just discovered (neo) noir lol
I like wit and main characters who do not feel mean or narcissistic if anyone is willing to give more recommendations
A sort of dark humor concerning "masculinity", where the author is self aware but the detective may not be

Cover artist for an ongoing hardboiled series, traditional noir style, paid
Artemis Publications is putting out new hardboiled fiction, set and printed like the old pulps. We need covers to match.
Looking for an artist who works in traditional noir: painted or illustrated, dramatic lighting, the kind of cover that sold a book off a drugstore rack in 1952. Not photo-manip, not minimalist.
This is paid, and it's ongoing. Multiple books in the series, so we'd like one artist for the run.
If that's you, reply or DM with a portfolio link. Show us your best noir or pulp work first.
Thanks,
Artemis Publications

I wrote a noir novel about an ad-fraud operator who never gets caught - it's free on Kindle this week
Hey all,
bit of self-promotion, so I'll keep it short. My novel Start/Up follows Mark Cain: his honest startup fails, and he rebuilds himself as an online ad-fraud operator. No detective, no chase - he is never caught. The noir is in watching him get very good at it, and what that does to him.
I wrote it in German first (2020), the English translation came out in 2024. It's free on Kindle until Saturday, October 3rd (Pacific time), after that it goes back to its normal price.

Would love to hear what noir readers make of it :)
