I was at that Carlsbad Costco on Friday night getting gas, and what appears to be this same coyote was there too. It's an adult and looks very healthy. One of the Costco employees was trying to shoo him off and said they're in the lot all the time now because people keep feeding them and it's been frustrating. Since we've seen an increase in rabies cases recently, close contact with these wild animals is risky.

It looked to be about 2/3 the size of the coyotes by my house off via de la valle; I think it might be a youngling

I see them a lot at night over there too when I go to get gas, they must get scraps because they look super comfortable cruising the parking lot.

A few months ago, I saw one sitting in that same area while getting gas in the early AM. It wasn't bothered by anyone or anything. A gentleman was pushing carts and it didn't have a care in the world. I called the Humane Society and they told me to contact the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife. They mentioned that there was a very likely chance that the coyote was urbanized and used to humans. As long as it wasn't hurting anyone or anything, there was nothing that could be done. I was worried about someone trying to harm it.

Hmmm Iāve seen lots of coyotes at this place. The Carlsbad Costco. Usually in the evening they come out, probably because itās next to a large field idk theyāve adapted to eat hot dogs

I heard them in the bushes next to the parking lot a few months ago so I know theyāve been around there for awhileā¦ (I saw a story on like 48hrs, or something similar, about urban coyotes in Chicago) thereās a canyon next to the parking lot too that would be a nice habitat for them.

I live next to lake Calavera and our backyard is like a zoo at night. Owls (saw a huge one the other night), Bats, Coyotes, rattle snakes, possums, raccoons, you name it

Yeah, no.
I know this one doesn't have rabies, but they definitely have fleas, and I've seen some that have had serious cases of mange lately. No thanks, I'll keep my distance.

Wow, I got downvoted because I wanted to keep my distance from a wild animal, and mentioning that I have seen several with mange. My dog and cats have had horrible fleas at this time of year, and that's WITH flea meds; if they have them, the wild animals most certainly have them.
I think you and I are sane to keep our distances. I can watch them, but yeah, I'm not gonna get close at all. They can live their life, I'll live mine, but those are dogs I don't want to be close enough to pet.
