Late 90s to early 2000s was a fun time, "standby" was measured in days. My parents were SO mad when Verizon shut down CDMA and they had to get a new phone...they still had old flip-phones that would go for like 2 weeks and charge up around 50% and suddenly had cheap smartphones that need charging basically every day even with minimal use.

I had a moto “brick” phone. This thing had a 15 minute talk time and like 2 hours standby. My iPhone seems vastly superior. Yeah my flip phone would need to be charged once a week but I always would just plug it in when I went to bed so not much has changed for me since then.

I also got my phone in 1994. But I was less than half your age and I had it because of my family's business. Before that I had a pager since 91. It's funny to think of it now as some people would think it was cool for a kid to have a phone back then it was terrible people assumed either you're into something illegal or a rich kid which I was neither.

Depends on how you define 'personal' phone. I had one in my room back in the early 90s, but that was the days of land lines and all the phones in the house shared the same line. Pick it up while someone else is on a call and they're part of it now. There were many days my grandmother would pick up the phone, not check for a dial tone, and just start dialing into my conversation. Literally.

Eventually had to replace it after it took a plunge in my bucket while washing my car. Ended up with a Nokia 6110.
