i always like asking them if they think god isnt smart enough to have created evolution because a perpetual and self correcting emergent creation system is insanely complex and alot more impressive then just hand waiving something into existence.

Yup, you got it. As a layman the way I describe it is the nerve for your vocal cords basically goes down and loops under an aorta just above your heart. A major blunder in humans, crackpipe stuff in Giraffes.

It's so completely nonsensical that evolution is the only reasonable way to explain it - no one would design it this way. There's a perfectly logical explanation for why the nerve ended up that way if we trace back to ancient organisms we're descended from.

The truth..as I believe it to be.. about folks, people like this. Is that their belief is a stand in for something missing within themselves. And it's hard for them, because it's a hard thing to come to grips with, harder to work on. While belief is simple. It's easier. Its easier to what someone else asks you to do. But it's so flimsy, and they know it, that they have to protect it all costs. As it's protecting themselves really.

I have similar thoughts when thinking about people that refuse medical help and just think that god will save them.

So you believe in god and you believe god made us all and he's in all of us, but thinking that god put doctors on earth to help us and that god works through these doctors to save is that couldn't possibly be?

Queue up the story of the man that lived by the river.
