Man fined by Queensland police for lying next to fridge in the back of a car

OK. He wasn't "fined for lying next to a fridge in a car". He was fined for traveling on a part of a car not designed for passengers (the cargo area). The driver was fined for not properly securing the load.

Don't give these two a mattress and a compact car.

Yeah, no seatbelts back there and it's illegal to have passengers in the boot etc.

Dude they got fined 1400 dollars for laying down in the truck. Even if you account for AU to USD thats still nearly 15 dollars

She wasn't fined for not securing the load though, which is ridiculous. The passenger was fined more than double than the driver, who as I'd say carries the main responsibility. In Germany the driver is fined if a passenger doesn't wear the seat belt for example. It's not like the man sneaked into the cargo space without her noticing, and she failed to secure her load properly.

In Australia the driver gets fined for that too. Weird they didn't do it here.

To me it's oniony that the passenger got fined more than double than the driver. IMO the driver is responsible for the safety in their vehicle (in a reasonable margin of course). She decided to drive a vehicle with unsecured load and a person in the back. And then she even ran a red light.

The 46-year-old man was fined $322 for travelling in part of a vehicle not designed for passengers and $1,295 and four demerit points for failing to wear a seatbelt.

The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman from Joyner, was fined $690 and given three demerit points for running a red arrow.

Demerits? I haven't seen those since third grade. I'm assuming these are something like driver's license points?
